redfiona99Just back from seeing Ed Byrne at DMH.
Given that I've been wanting to see him live for ~13 years, I'm amazed that he managed to live up to my own personal hype but he did.
Basically, when we moved into the previous house I lived in, I started writing names of interesting actors/comedians/musicians on my bedroom wall and his was one of the first on it. I am squeakily happy.
This was all probably helped by the awesome seat I had. The stalls at DMH are temporary ones and the row I was on was the one level with the stage so, despite the tall person in front of me, I could see everything.
He's so very funny, and very sharp, and amazingly good at tailoring the jokes to the audience. Obviously the meat of them is pre-written, but he knows when to throw a new one in, normally as an aside, or when to ad-lib, as he had to during one of the crowd interaction bits.
The act itself was clever as well as being funny - in between the observational comedy bits, there was a lot of taking apart of the act and comedy and comedians in general. He also managed to mix the loud shouty ranty bits well with the silly bits and, in short, I am all a-glee.
I am also totally buying the DVD, which he managed to plug without plugging it.
