The rules were ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post.
And
wishtheworst asked for my top 5 non-human characters.
1 - Spock!
He deserves that exclamation mark.
You've got to imagine me at five, a stranger in a strange land, not from there and not not from there either and then there was this fantastically clever and interesting person on the TV, and his friends loved him despite and because of his differences and just yeah, Spock is very important to me. I really wanted to be Spock when I grew up. I've not achieved the ears or the superior strength, but I think I have the science bit sorted.
2 - Spike
He does not get an exclamation mark. Also, I wish to point out that I don't have a think for characters who start with a silibant and end with a K. But what's not to love, he's just so spectacular, quotable and deeply vampirised.
He's also the one person we ever meet who manages to gel his human side to his demon side.
I bet he's great fun over a pint or three.
3 - The Doctor
Well 9 (and a half, depending on if we're counting Peter Cushing or not) of him anyway. Again, clever and not human and different and ... well, I fell for the 3rd Doctor, so I expect him to dress like a loon too. I like mad scientist characters.
4 - Hobbes
I decided that as a stuffed tiger, he definitely counts as non-human, however much he might be a product of Calvin's imagination. Not that he is, because we all know that Hobbes is real and alive and great fun. Even if he does like tuna, which is vile. Who doesn't want a friend like Hobbes?
5 - Mr & Mrs Beaver
Okay, this could have gone to Mr. Tumnus too, and indeed most of the non-human people we meet in the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. But I think I love Mr & Mrs Beaver the best, because they're so kind and loving, and they know exactly how much they're risking by helping the children and they do it anyway because they know it's the right thing to do. I have a soft spot in my heart for ordinary heroes.

Date: 2009-09-27 11:39 am (UTC)Possibly that's why Vulcan is so arid and hot. In the pre-logic, pre-Surak days, they used so much hairspray to keep their hair like that that their ozone layer totally vanished. They keep it like that now because it would be illogical to change when there is no more ozone layer to harm.
