So the world championships are in full flow, and I've seen about 2 frames of it, partly because my housemates are big snooker hating meanies, and partly because I've barely been home all week.
Anyway, the match ups have been very cruel to yours truly, it often being my favourites against each other, and when it hasn't been, the person I wanted to win has lost (right now, Michael Holt, I'm not talking to you). But some interesting things have occured:
1) Neil Robertson has had his dye job re-done - http://img.skysports.com/08/04/218x298/Neil_Robertson_World_Championship_v_Nigel_Bon_801116.jpg
He's 27, still looks ridiculously young and has the worst dye job known to man.
2) He beat Steve Davis 10 - 2 in the first round :( Steve Davis is being even more charming that usual -
Davis said he was "hanging on for grim death" to his playing career.
"I'm not too sure it's about bowing out in style," he said. "I think I've gone past that. I'm going down the wall slowly with my fingernails."
He added: "I have mediocre commitment and occasionally I put in mediocre performances, but I can't complain. If I try to be 100% committed to the game in any way, shape or form, I'm not absolutely sure I would be anywhere near getting to any standard required to win."
But Davis, who will need to play one qualifying round next year in order to reach the Crucible, revealed that he was not set to quit the sport.
"I've considered whether it would be to my benefit to draw a line, and came to the conclusion there wasn't really any point," he said. You can't physically get hurt and it's not like you start to get injuries. The only injuries could be mental and as long as you can take that then why not carry on?"
I am even more in love than usual.
3) Neil Robertson, despite his (relative) youth, is a dashed good sport.
4) Meanwhile Shaun Murphy is still being a whingy cry baby, but sadly won. I've been assured that he comes over much better in person than he does on TV though.
