Being Human (Episode 2)

redfiona99Okay, so I made a huge mistake before watching the second episode. I watch the pilot on youtube. And no, the series really isn't as good and I want the proper Mitchell back. Am presently keeping myself amused with the idea that this is an AU and how the pilot versions of the characters would respond to what's happening to the things that are happening in the series.
I was pleased to see Dean Lennox Kelly in the trailers for episode 2, because he's never less than good and quite often he's better. He normally plays Northern scally with a heart of gold (people who watch less TV than I do will probably recognise him from the Shakespeare Code, and I loved them having a Northern Shakespeare) so I was interested to see how he'd do
a werewolf. For the first half, I did wonder why they were wasting him, because he was far better than they needed for Cully, who was (monthly claws and fur aside) your average charming wastrel. Only they then developed it, and yes, for the middle the plot developed in the expected way (and I do think they're trying to tease us with Mitchell/Annie and that too would have worked so much better with the pilot and ow!) and Cully turned out to be a realistic jerk. Only then the last fifteen minutes, oh what they did with it. Because it was obvious that Cully had some other reason for seeking out George, rather than just 'I wanna be werewolf best buddies', but the revelation of who he was, and what he'd done and what he'd lost and how he was everything and nothing that he'd pretended to be and that moment where you thought that George was going to let him hang.
He didn't but you could see the temptation and though it was a bad, wrong thing, you could totally see why George might do it. Russell Tovey can act!
The vampire porn bit was wonderfully gross and amusing, and I loved Annie looking through her fingers in squicked horror. I also really liked Mitchell trying to pretend that he isn't aroused by it and then picking it out of the bin later. I do like what they're doing with the vampires, this idea of a terrible compulsion.
