Sadly Fred is dead, or very close to it. Therefore I must get a new laptop. So I'm looking for general recommendations, warnings, that kind of thing. Money not really an object; functionality, ease of use and huge great whacking stores of memory are.

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad and love it. It never gives me any trouble and I believe you can customize how much memory you want. It has a one touch recovery thing too, which I never thought I'd use and totally came in handy when I got a shitty virus - its a slow process, but a couple of hours later I had my brand new clean computer back.

I would absolutely not recommend a Vaio. I've heard other people say they love them, but mine was nothing but trouble.

I second the person above me. Vaio's suck! Mine lasted me about a year and two weeks so it was just outside warranty when it died. Not fun.

I really love my HP. I have uh, three of them. And they all work fine except the oldest has a slight battery problem as in, it no longer charges so you can't unplug it and take it anywhere. But, still works fine!
