Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Jul. 28th, 2007 12:34 amWent to see it with my Nan last Saturday for her birthday.
I'm both interested in and struck by how much they simplified the book. You get none of the business of Harry and Sirius being a wee bit dumb and responsible for the mess at the end, and therefore Harry's show-down with Dumbledore lacked a little umph.
The usual problem of no-one looking how I thought they should raised its ugly head again. Unfortunately having cast my primary school headmistress as Umbridge it means that whoever played her was never going to match up to the creeping dread that image managed. I did like how they did all her cats and her sheer pinkness.
It's also quite interesting what they added. I must say I never felt sorry for Kreacher in the book, but in this he's such a folorn figure, I can't help but feel like that. And the scene with Sirius in front of the tapestry made me think he would have loved to be taken back into the family busom, which I never ever got from the books. Poor Sirius always out in the cold. I did love his velveteen suit though. And I like how the monochromeness of his outfit also kept him separated from the colourfulness of everyone else.
I am once again in love with Weasleys. I love that there's a family gesture when standing up for something. I have no idea if they staged it or not, but the twinses and Ron, and Mr. Weasley to a lesser extent, all make the same shoulder roll when they're standing up for Harry.
Also when the Twinses are looking after the boy I presume to be Michael Corner, I swear my heart went all melty.
Seamus gets lots of love also because it takes a strong man to apologise in front of that many people.
The end fight was, again, nothing like I imagined but pretty cool none the less. And I want Tonks's coat. Really cool SFX. And the music was decent.
So yes, nothing spectacular, but not bad. And the Ravenclaw tie is soooooo my primary school tie.
