Wrestling Update
Apr. 8th, 2007 11:34 pmFor the first time in ages I have been able to watch wrestling. So you will all get squeeing about it.
I quite liked the set up for the tag team battle royals. I also really liked HBK's look of disgust at the Coach when he announced the second one. I'm quite pleased that the Hardys have the tag belts, not because of any fondness for them but I prefer it when tag teams have the belts rather than just random cobbled together teams.
Poor Cena, all those people after his belt. I must say that I think Edge presented the best case.
The two best parts of the Vince business was Farooq doing his best not to say damn, and the contortions his face was going through, and one of Cryme Tyme doing their best to shush Eugene to keep him out of trouble. See this is what anti-authority faces are supposed to do, stick it to the man, and avoid harming innocents.
I liked how they're setting up the Melina v Mickey feud.
Far more fun than RAW, starting with Mr. Money in the Bank. Kennedy played it so well. I'm also half in love with Finlay for coming out and defending Hornswaggle. Rather more disturbingly, Mother is also half in love with him too.
Poor King Booker, it really wasn't his night. Nan stayed up for an extra quarter of an hour just to see his bits. Booker has powers beyond those of mortal men.
Benoit v the Miz was good. This should not come as a shock.
I'm about the say something that hurts me deeply to say. Since I should and do like both of them. But are London and Spanky the most boring tag team ever? I mean, mostly I can blame WWE but I keep forgetting about their existance.
The Batista v Undertaker show down was just classic. Brief, to the point, tense. The Tombstone to Booker T on the announce table made me think that it was a good idea to cut back on those spots because it makes them look so much worse. Even if thanks to the camera guy you could see that Booker's head was nowhere near the table.
One of my 2 ECW thoughts doesn't have to be cut - I want Kevin Thorn's coat. And his manager, but you know, I can live with just the coat.
From the CM Punk v Stevie Richards match - so Punk's got injured ribs from the Money In the Bank match so Stevie works on his ribs. At one point he puts him into an abdominal stretch, and this is the part I really love, sticks an elbow in to Punk's ribs. So much love.
AJ Style, Abyss and Scott Steiner were so much fun in the background of the opening Team Cage segment. I also loved the party afterwards, where, after a totally incomphrensible speech from Steiner, Christian was all 'the best of it is he's not even drunk yet'. Hee!
I'm also really fond of how Team Angle are mostly held together by hating the opposition. That can't be healthy.
I also love the on-going cat-fight between Gail and Jackie.
Why did no one tell me that Austin Aries was ridiculously amusing? I'm still cheering for Senshi though.
LAX v 3D confuses me. Because I know I'm supposed to be cheering for Team 3D. But I find myself cheering for LAX. This disturbs me. Also disturbing is the idea of an electrified cage. If ever something was almost bound to go wrong, that is it.
I really liked Cornette's meeting at the end, it's a clear way of signalling the card and I enjoyed everyone's reactions. I also love that, with the exception of the people in the X-Division escape match (the rules of which someone will have to explain to me), the heels were on one side of the ring and the good guys on the other. Mostly I am also looking forward to the chick fight in the cage and AMW v each other. With blindfolds, which should make for chaos.
I'm also digging Cornette as the GM, particularly his line about the unfortunate Eric Young.
I'm enjoying it. This could just be absense making the heart grow fonder though.
