Like pretty much everyone else I must say how good the sets were and everything. I also liked how the Wire got to all these people by using their desire to watch the Coronation. Also, Maureen Lipman was seriously scary and I may never be able to listen to the family talking about early TV ever again.

I was a bit worried that the faceless people would be this year's scary gas-mask children because I felt serious dread when I could only hear Granny. But when I saw her, and the others it wasn't scary at all.

All in all it was a good story even if, and I realise it's an old complaint, it could have done with more time for the characters to be built up.

Which brings me to my one actual objection to the programme, why were Rose and the Doctor telling Tommy to cosy up to his Dad at the end when his Dad was nothing more than an abusive bully. And before anyone says anything about there being no actual violence shown, it was heavily implied. It just makes no sense.

But next week seems promising given that it's supposed to be off-world, has what looks to be a good guest cast and it's a two-parter.

On to Superman, all I wish to say is that the 'Total Film' front cover this month is a work of art. The Empire one is good too, but the Total Film one is just extraordinary.
