Found a bit of sequencing I needed for dissertation, in a manner that I think shows that I am the luckiest cow in the world.

Kind of worried about tonight's Dr. Who because I really didn't like last week's and I don't want them messing up Sarah Jane.

Caught the front of what I think was Calcio Italia but I might be wrong. It has a photo of Inzaghi on the front. And the lead article was all about the small pesky one making a late charge for the Italian national team. About which I am mostly yay, because Lippi can get the best out of him. And you know, hopefully him and Del Piero aren't at each other's throats anymore. The only thing is, I'd keep Luca Toni in the team because he's proven to be good this season, but I worry that if anyone is dropped to make room for Pippo it'll be him, rather than say Vieri who is out of form.

I can't believe I just suggested dropping Vieri. I think I'm about to be struck down by lightening.

I wouldn't mind Italy winning, but I don't see it happening :(

I want either them or Germany to win. I can't see either of them actually doing it though. Ah the Italian National Team, how you cause me great anguish.

I usually would be supporting Serbia and I still am, however, the World Cup hates us and we're in the same group as Argentina and the Netherlands...which is a death sentence.

I just want Portugal to lose.

It reminds me of the Czech Republic in Euro 2000, they got stuck in a group with Frane, the Netherlands and someone else not half bad. They were doomed from the outset. But you never know, Serbia might get lucky. Never doubt the ability of luck to factor into things.

>>I just want Portugal to lose.<< For this sentance alone you win at life forever.

I know, but it really doesn't help that half the Serbian players have their heads up their arses. Honestly, I'll just cling to Mateja and hope. GodI'velovedthatmanforyears.
And possibly ignore that Vidic plays for them.

The Serbian national team is like Marat, when they're on, they're on...but they can be beaten by anyone.

I have such a hate-on for Portugal, which started at Euro 2004. I actually felt sorry for Figo when they lost, even though I was supporting Greece SO HARD. But on the other hand, Cristiano Ronaldo was crying - this made me happy, because I hate him. The cocky little bastard lost and it was good. He didn't help the situation by playing for Man. U...I've hated them since the mid-90s and I'm supposed to stop now?

I felt sorry for some of Portugal's players on the one hand, because it was really the last throw of the dice for some of the "Golden Generation" Figo, Simao and the other one who's name I always forget, but at the same time go on Greece. It was quite funny, the only football team with a representative on both teams was Leicester City but Theo Zagorakis was so nice about us, the uni, in the run-up that I couldn't help but cheer for them. Apparently when he first came over he spoke very little English so he used to hang out with the Greek students at the uni, who we have a lot of.

Also, on an unrelated point - is the party the 4th or the 8th of July and how long will it last?

Y'know, it's actually quite nice to see someone who's talking about Luca and Pippo and Vieri and the striker situation rather than "omg will Totti be fit in time?!!?" But yeah, Vieri's been a bit up and down lately and Pippo's actually been somewhat on form - if you were going to take one of the two, you'd want Pippo. Even if he's apparently made of glass.

Well, I decided I'd definitely be struck down by lightening if I suggested dropping Totti. That or some very angry Romans. There's also the ring rust thing with him to consider, game fitness and all that, since they tried bringing Del Piero back too early for the last world cup (traditional IMO disclaimer there). Whereas Vieri has been playing but not as well as Pippo. Although I mean, if Lippi had the space for 5 players in his squad (which I doubt he will have) you'd take all of them, because seriously how good would the following be - pass ball up for Totti/Del Piero to create space for Toni/Vieri who holds the ball up and shoots or passes to Inzaghi/Toni.

And that's the problem, if Lippi only has 4 spaces who do you leave out:

Toni - good, but not proven at international level
Totti - who is creative but coming back off an injury
Del Piero - who is creative, but never seems to function as well at international level
Vieri - who's gone off the boil a bit
Inzaghi - who's coming on the boil but who knows by the time the WC comes around, especially since he's made out of glass.

In between that and the goalkeeping situation (because, I may be alone in this, and as a Juve fan it hurts to say it) Toldo is a better goalkeeper than Buffon I'm so glad I'm not in Lippi's shoes.

Yep, it's the lightning or a mob of angry Romans if you so much as dare suggest that Totti won't be going. Even if I'm inclined (sort of traitorously, as a bit of a closet Roma fan) to agree with the woman from Calcio Italia and say that Italy can play as well if not better without Totti. I mean, you have Totti in the side and everyone seems to sort of slack off and rely on him to be their creative force, and when he's not there, they actually seem to come to life a bit.

And God, that lineup would be so much fun to watch. But sadly, four spaces = likely. And I'm thinking that since Lippi seems to be a bit of a Totti-fan, there'll be an odd choice of Toni-Del Piero-Inzaghi-Vieri. And okay, so Pippo and Vieri have played well together in the past, but I wouldn't be too keen on leaving out Toni who's been playing so much more consistently than Inzaghi or Vieri all damn season. And poor old Alex, God knows what they're going to do with him. He's never been the same since that injury yeeears ago, but you wouldn't want to leave him out of the side simply because when he's on form, he's really not someone you'd want to leave watching from Turin.

And y'know, with the goalkeepers, I think you've just committed sacrilege.

That's one of the problems with the way that Italy play, they do kind of rely on the person playing at number 10, just behind the strikers, a wee bit too much. Which is probably why I'd take Del Piero, just in case anything happens to Totti, or in case he isn't ready for the first few matches. And I'd definitely take Toni. Which leaves a choice between Vieri and Inzaghi, which makes me wibble and worry. I'm not cut out to be a football manager.

Re: Goalkeeping sacrilege - but I'm right, that's the worst of it. Seriously, if my life depended on it, I'd rather have Toldo in goal.
