Wheeeeeeeee!
Oct. 25th, 2004 03:23 pmGuess who got to see Franz Ferdinand play live last night!! And was only five rows of standing people removed from them.
I was at Debs on Saturday night and she suddenly gets a call from Nishad asking if she wants to go see them because Nishad has a spare ticket. Now I thought they were playing here in February so I was saving my pennies up for that. But alas I was wrong. So I was all "I am soooo jealous but have a great time." Then later, 11 o'clockish, Nishad rings back asking if Debs has any friends who want to go because there are more spare tickets. So hey presto I get to go to the gig.
And they were brilliant.
The first support act was odd, but a damn good guitar player. Plus boob scotch is liable to stay with me forever as a concept.
The second support act were 'The Kills' and they too were good. And the lead singer was hot. Website here abouts http://www.thekills.tv/ possibly comes under not worksafe due to language.
Franz Ferdinand themselves were brilliant, and the crowd were so into them. The first song they played was Michael, and then most of the rest of the album, and anything they didn't play in the main gig they played in the encore.

Which leads to question 1 - how did four skinny white boys from Glasgow armed with two guitars, a bass, a drum and a keyboard make a great disco album? 'Cause played live it is really dancy.
The recorded version is slightly more indie-ish but still madly dancey.
And oh my word the pretty indie boys on stage. The lead singer in not good looking, but damned if he isn't attractive. As is the other guitarist/keyboardist. I will be forced to go scouring for pictures of them from the Mercury Music Awards.
Also expect some madly blurry shots of the band from the gig some time in December.

But yes, in short, I had great time and I would heartily recommend going seeing them. I don't know if they're going to be touring in the US or what but if I find out I warn you I will be encouraging you all to go.
As it is I heartily recommend either DL at least 'Matinee' and 'Take Me Out'. Every song on that album could be a single but they're the big two. And 'Michael' which they've just released is fun too.
