This week I was supposed to be in the US. I am not, and the weather in Birmingham is not the same as the weather in San Diego.

That apart, lockdown hasn't really changed my life.

I live 2 1/2 hours away from my Mum anyway, so it's not like I can pop round. And we are both very happy with that. We realised quite early on, that our relationship improves with distance. And so, normally I've only ever seen her via phonecall most of the time, since I was 18. (We love each other very much, but I am unnaturally untidy and she micro-manages everything.)

Most of my friends live nowhere near me - I think London is the nearest - and most of my social activities aren't particularly. I go to the gym, I go to see films, and the one where I interact with people is fencing.

Because two of our fencing coaches are over 70, we closed fencing before the lockdown started. And fencing I miss. Probably the closest I've come to a wobble was about two weeks in where I had this overwhelming urge to hit someone with a sword - don't worry, I wanted them to have a sword and mask etc too. Oddly, that day, I ran into a fencer on my evening constitutional, and he felt exactly the same way. I think that's the thing, you've got to be wired a particular way to want to hit someone with a sword, and be okay with them hitting you, but we're all together in being odd that way.

Fencing and going out for coffee, that's what I miss.
