Oh my word, Radio One are playing the Evervesent song that was used for No Way Out. I knew there was a reason I loved the Jo Whiley Show.

New Icon

And yes I am quite sad enough to have an icon culled from 'Dune'. But it is of Kynes who is my favourite character in both book and tv-adaptation.

I've just been watching my vid tape of Glasto '99, and it's made me rather I don't know, sad really. Because I had to chose the part that had Lonnie Donnagan (dead), Joe Strummer (equally dead) and Cast (split up) on it.

Time flies doesn't it.

Recently there was this documentary about Brit-pop and a CD came out with it. Now Brit-pop was the first music scene that I was in some way part of, so I'm kinda disturbed that it's already history, but that wasn't the worst of it. I was reading the track-listing of the CD and there were all these really cool bands, bands that were it once upon a time, and almost all of them have split up. It's like there were 40 tracks on the album and all but 8 of the bands have split up.

So yeah.

But it's been a good day, one of those nice days that brings back my belief in the universe. Nothing brilliant, just very nice.

The only thing that wasn't too nice was doing Biology revision and discovering that no, the teacher hadn't in fact gone over half this stuff in class. Not that I'm surprised, he'd rather flirt with the girls in the corner. And I don't think he knows that they know full well what's going on and are playing him like a puppet. But it's bery annoying, so I might have to get the information from other friends in the other biology class who might have actually gone through this part of the syllabus.

As usual after Ju-Jitsu on Tuesday I can't cope with stairs on the Wednesday. My thighs hurt far too much for a teenager, I'm hobbling round worse than my Grandmother.

Local elections soon and it's the first time I get to vote. Now I'm horribly over-excited, power, representation etc. Admittedly it's a postal vote so there's no ballot box fun but still :)

Because I'm a first time voter, Labour have decided to contact me and the local candidate has sent me (and every other first timer in the borough) a letter. Now if I wasn't peed off at Labour already, I might vote for them. As it is, if the Lib Dems stick a candidate up (which knowing my luck they won't) that's where my vote is going.

But the thing that annoys me is that lots of people my age won't be voting. Now I realise I'm dreadfully old-fashioned but I was always brought up to believe that if you didn't vote then you didn't get to complain when the council hashes everything up. I realise it doesn't make a blind bit of difference who is in power, but I like the idea of getting off my arse and at least trying to do something.

Actually, I'm generally disgusted by the youth of today. They're so darn conservative. They're saying things my Nan would agree with, and most of it isn't nice. Now when my Nan says it, it's equally wrong and not nice, but it's understandable, she was born in the Twenties so her views are bound to be a little old fashioned, but when someone of my age says it, it freaks me out.

Especially since they tend to be anti-foreigner homophobes.

Part of what freaks me out is a lot of my friends and aquaintances attitude to music. Okay, for musical upbringing you're not going to get more stereotypically white European than me. I was raised on folk and classical music. Before I was about 11, my favourite artists list was exclusively made up of random Scottish and Irish folkies and people who had been dead 100 years. I grew up in an environment where the nearest thing you got to black musicians was Michael Jackson.

But I got to liking rap, hip-hop, dance, rock, anything you name it, there's a good chance I'll like it.

So I'm in biology quite happily humming away something like Destiny's Child when a few of my friends come up and start bewailing the fact that the chart is dominated by such-like. And then one of them comes out with 'I don't like black music'.

And I was like what the fuck?! And they were saying it all sounds the same. Now this wouldn't be quite as laughable if the boys in question didn't happen to like Blink 182, New Found Glory and their ilk.

I didn't pressure the point (something which I am still smacking myself over) but in what way is chart r'n'b representative of anything. How can you diss a whole genre off hand like that? And black music, what is it? Since I'm presuming that the guys wouldn't classify Destiny's Child under the same heading as Senegalese music, in the same way you wouldn't put Britney in the same classification as Bob Dylan.

But yeah, still angry about that.

And now the worst thing in the world to know. I was merrily jigging along to Adam Ant on the TV when Cousin Phil comes in and starts talking on the phone and then says there's something he'd like to say without anyone hearing, so I clap my hands over my ears.

Now of course I'm also listening in, because I like to know what the boy is up to, mainly so I can filter the garbage he normally spews through the facts that I know.

And then he says that he shagged two girls last night.

The idea of my cousin copulating disgusts me more than the idea of my parental unit doing so. Plus I really worry about the sanity of the girls in question. The worst of it is, is that if he's started shagging, then he could reproduce. Crikey it's enough to make me want to breed just to repair the damage he'll do to the gene pool.

And yes, I realise he's family so that's a very cruel thing to say, but it's true. Ack, lots of little Phils running around.

That's about it.
