I can work with that. I was going to send him doing PPE but then I found out that while I had the right university (Oxford), they only brought that in in 1920. Then a quick wiki had everyone round them coming up through the military, as you said, which, while helpful for something else, doesn't work because frustratingly, this is for a throw away line saying "although he studied x, he spent a lot of time on chemistry."
Definitely Classics, though I think there were a few who studied maths! And Law, though early in the era it would have been through the Temples not the universities.
