While mostly I will be talking about OVE, the best match of the night was probably Willie Mack vs one of the Weed Broz, which was every spotty, joyful thing about the old X-division in a match. I loved it.

Eddie Edwards appears to have inherited James Storm's crown as the hero who runs in to thump things when it is not a thumping problem. I fear thumping is not how to solve the Ace Austin situation, Eddie. (Also I love that the Impact crowd went with "chokeslam time Eddie, this is Havok's yard".)

OVE are a problem I believe thumping will solve. Because boy, do they work as antagonistic faction. I like that they work separately and collectively, and that there is an internal logic to them (although I await when the Crists turn on the evil and vile Sami Callaghan, and if they could have blond Crist be torn between evil Sami Callaghan and his idiot brother, I would be so very happy because I am a person of simple pleasures).

The build up to the main event was so good. It set out who everyone was, and why and Tommy Dreamer got to be the hero the world needs and then Tessa Blanchard got to look awesome, while Sami Callaghan looked thoroughly evil and everything just worked. I approve, heartily, and wish to join the crowd in chanting "OVE suck!"

[personal profile] villagecharm described Eddie as "a new England townie unable to identify the source of his rage" and if that's not the most perfect description of him (other than "secretly a werewolf"), I don't know what is. I feel like of all the stories they're doing on Impact, this is the one where I really don't know where it's going. I like that this could be a story that ends with Alisha realizing what's up and kicking Ace Austin in the balls but it could equally involve Eddie making a deal with the literal devil, or a hundred other things and the only way to know is to watch and see.

I also like that Impact is doubling down on the intergender stuff, and not just for Tessa. For one, intergender tag matches are just better than mixed tags, so it's nice to have that on the table. Secondly, it opens up way more story options, when they have such a lean roster. It sets them apart from what everyone else is doing.

I'm also now convinced it's a matter of when, not if, Tessa wins the heavyweight title (hopefully off of Sami Callihan). Possibly w/ Option C?

(also the old Impact Zone had a great OVE chant w/ a similar vibe. OVE would do their "EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING" chant and the crowd would respond, "sucks!" - so "EVERYTHING" "sucks!")
