Two End of Year Memes
Feb. 9th, 2014 01:29 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Because it's already February, and I feel ridiculous not having posted them yet.
1) Was 2013 a good year for you?
Yes and no. Yes in the sense of nothing bad happened, no in the sense of work stuff not going as well as it could have.
2) What was your favourite moment of the year?
Travis live was pretty awesome. Seeing the rugby semi-finals live ditto.
3) What was your least favourite moment of the year?
I know the misadventures of the mould are too long to count as a moment but I'd like to nominate them anyway.
4) Where were you when 2013 began?
St. Helens.
5) Who were you with?
Family
6) Where will you be when 2013 ends? / Where were you when 2013 ended?
Same as last year. I'm using the holiday to recuperate from life so there will be no travelling.
7) Who will you be with when 2013 ends? / Who were you with when 2013 ended?
Nan and Mum.
8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2013?
Sort of. Just ignore my lab book being 3 months out of date. Monday the 6th of January will take care of that.
9) Do you have a new years resolution for 2013?
Just the usual, keep the flat tidy, write up my lab-book.
10) Did you fall in love in 2013?
Thankfully, no.
11) If yes, with who?
12) If yes, do they know?
13) Do you regret it?
14) Did you break-up with anyone in 2013?
No.
15) Did you make any new friends in 2013?
Not sure. There is new PhD student, and other new PhD student who then left, nothing to do with me, I hasten to add, he found the perfect PhD place and went there instead. Also a couple of new fencers.
16) Who are your favourite new friends?
J the fencer. Because I'm old enough to find being friends with the new PhD students strange and peculiar.
17) What was your favourite month of 2013?
If I can have the end of October attached to November, that, easily.
18) Did you travel outside of theUS UK in 2013?
Yes, to Paris.
19) How many different states did you travel to in 2013?
None ;)
20) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2013?
Thankfully no-one.
21) Did you miss anybody in the past year?
Most of the usual Leicester lot.
22) What was your favourite movie that you saw in 2013?
I saw a lot more films this year thanks to getting a Cineworld card. 9 in total. I think. The best was probably Stoker, which was odd and creepy and magnetically weird and was, at the very least, different. I'm not sure enjoyed is the right word but I had an experience while watching it.
23) What was your favourite song from 2013?
As per usual, there are a couple of options:
John Newman - Will You Love Me Again? - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CfihYWRWRTQ
Rudimental - Waiting All Night - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M97vR2V4vTs
Bastille - Pompeii - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F90Cw4l-8NY
Since John Newman has sung with Rudimental (Feel The Love - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oABEGc8Dus0), that's practically me bringing it down to two choices ;) Sorry, I like broken beats, and the Northern Soul sound and Indie Electro Disco.
Happy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM) was a definitely a late entry into the list and I also liked this remix of Lana Del Ray's Summertime Sadness (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akhmS1D2Ce4)
24) What was your favourite record from 2013?
I still haven't bought anything recorded in 2013. There's a couple of things I'm thinking of getting but that's it.
25) How many concerts did you see in 2013?
2. Birmingham is weird, it's the second city but no one tours here. Like the big bands play the enormo-domes and the smaller to getting-bigger bands play the O2 but that's it. The middle just don't come here (see, especially the Manics, who are touring in 2014, but the nearest they get to me is Leicester and while I'm tempted, I don't know if P and K will let me onto their sofa.) So yeah, one of those two gigs was in London.
26) Did you have a favourite concert in 2013?
Travis easily. Sorry I Am In Love (https://www.facebook.com/iaminlovemusic) but I have loved Travis since the first time I heard Happy in 1997 (so mumblty-teen years) and they were fantastic and magnificent.
27) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2013?
Only in fits and starts. And watching the rugby. Saints drove me to drink repeatedly.
28) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2013?
No.
29) How many people did you sleep with in 2013?
0
30) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
Nothing I can think of off the top of my head.
31) What was the worst lie someone told you in 2013?
I'll get right on it and variations on that theme.
32) Did you treat somebody badly in 2013?
Not really. Just the usual fear that I've been a shitty friend to a few people.
33) Did somebody treat you badly in 2013?
Not that I noticed. Most of the disasters were through accidental damage.
34) How much money did you spend in 2013?
Not as much as I might have due to paranoia re: price of repairing the leak/mould damage.
35) What was your proudest moment of 2013?
Top 90 in the country for my weapon. Booyah!
36) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2013 and change something, what would it be?
I would make upstairs get a plumber in sooner.
37) What are your plans for 2014?
Write up the two papers I'm working on, apply for Fellowship funding (because I will need a new funding stream from March 2015), get down to 10 stone.

Only 9 proper fics, which is down on what I was aiming for, but c'est la vie.
My favourite story this year: I am unreasonable on the topic of A Short Week of Long Days. Because it has taken me 7 years. But I think it works :)
My best story this year: Going off feedback, One For All And All For One. Apparently it caught what people liked about the Rebootverse Enterprise crew.
Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Laugh At Love. The one blasted time I write what I assume is a popular m/m pairing in a fandom and I still don't get many replies. (I joke mostly, the replies I got, though few, were interesting.)
Most fun story: Laugh at Love is great fun, because the terrible things that will happen to Romeo and Mercutio have yet to happen and Mercutio is fun to be around. Also One For All And All For One seems to have made people happy.
Most sexy story: I have failed, utterly, on the sexy front. There's two more fics that will hopefully be finished next year that should improve this.
Story with single sexiest moment: Presents From Home, to wit - "He was so solidly *there*, and only seemed to be encouraged by being bitten and clawed at."
Hardest story to write: A Short Week of Long Days - Seven years of writing.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Repeating Image. The fic that broke my brain to the point where I was imagining matches that didn't happen.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Becoming, including the chapters I'm still working on. It's also interesting, to me, how little I know about day to day life of what I'd call recent history (so after 1965 and before 1990).
Biggest disappointment: Better Things just didn't quite work. I'm not sure what about it doesn't, but there's something missing.
Biggest surprise: People really liked One For All and All For One. I mean, I like it, it's fun, it's happy, it's team fic, but the number of replies I got that were basically " :D " makes me extremely happy.
Most unintentionally telling story: Not exactly unintentionally, but Giles in Power of Words and I agree on many things.
