TV, films and the fanfic meme

So Channel 5 are showing some original drama that doesn't appear to be a procedural krimi. It looks like it's going to be a thriller, but a thriller with Robert Sheehan and Aiden Gillen in. So yes, I think I might try to watch it.

Other things that Robert Sheehan is in that might end badly is the adaptation of Mortal Instruments. On the one side it is stuffed full of actors I like, or at the very least I find interesting to watch. On the other hand, Cassie "plagiarist" Claire. So I'm thinking aheming is the sensible option.

Fanfic Meme - Day 22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

I take part in the xmmficathon whenever it's on, and I've taken part in lgbtfest and it's successor queer_fest (even if it's over on Dreamwidth now and I don't like the new name. See also Giles's issues in the fic I wrote for it this year are also my issues with the word "queer").

If there's a fun fest going on, in a fandom I write in (or allowing me to write in a fandom I write in), I don't mind getting involved.

I prefer the looser ruled ones, so for writing for someone fests or prompt-based fests I like the "pick a prompt and off you go, here's your deadline" method.

It's one of the things I like about 50kinkyways, unlike a lot of the table/bingo based challenges, they accept that you're not going to be able to write frequently so it may take time to finish the full 50 (I've still only done 18 but I'm hopeful of finishing the next 2 some time soon).

I'm not really a Big Bang sort of person. I write short. And Yuletide is out for me because my family are disaster-prone at Christmas time.

I've had really good experiences with fests, mostly because there are some great prompts out there, ones that make you look again at the characters you write and help you write stuff you wouldn't have written otherwise. I think that might be the reason why the three of my fics with the most hits over on AOOO are all fest or challenge fics.



1 - How did you first get into writing fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote for? What do you think it was about that fandom that pulled you in?
2 - Name the fandoms you've written in, and how much you've written in that fandom, and if you still write in it.

19 - When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?
20 - Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?
21 - Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?
24 – Betaing – How many betas do you like to use to make sure there aren't any major flaws in your fic? Do you have a Beta horror story or dream story?
25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?
26 – What is the oddest (or funnest) thing you've had to research for a fic?
27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?
28 – Have you ever collaborated with anyone else, whether writing together, or having an artist work on a piece about your fic?
29 – What is your current project or projects?
