Before I go on to discuss the rest of what was actually a good show, I want to write one of my occasional 10 minute love letters to AJ Styles's wrestling.
I remember when AJ Styles was written off as nothing but a supremely talented spot monkey. And that's been wrong for a long time but he's got even better. Because he's totally changed how he does his thing. It's not just cutting down on the flippy-flippy and adding submission holds, it's how he does his punches, his body language and everything.
That was some prime, high-class heel work from Bobby Roode.
And for once, something Hulk Hogan said made sense. That's a brilliantly sneaky way of dealing with Aces and Eights. I love how Aces and Eights snuck back. Also very done.
Bad Influence continue to be far too much fun, even while I boo and hiss at them.
I fear I might have been too mean previously to Kenny King because he was fantastic fun in that match. As was everyone else. And the crowd. I swear to the flying spaghetti monster that I just heard a Georgia crowd cheering for an Englishman.
Crimson's re-appearance caused me great glee. I choose to pretend he's spent the last year gibbering about numbers in a corner (judging by him now wearing two knee braces, my guess is that he's been out with knee surgery). Also, it says something about Joseph Park that, despite my love of Crimson, I am pleased that he won.
It's not entirely Velvet Sky's fault, and I know why they've gone with this, and it ought to work but ... I just don't buy her as a good guy. See also Edge.
Well that Sting promo was spectacularly unhinged. Any guesses as to who he's bringing in?
I have mentioned how fantastic AJ Styles is. And Kurt Angle. Although I wish they'd had fewer "lets drop Kurt on his head" spots.
Edited to add:
Not related but while I want to loudly tell people that this is why we don't show fic to the people being written about, I love that Randy Orton's reaction to slash fic is not horror but complaints about it always being Cody he's hooked up with and the poor quality of the sex scenes. I think that's the best possible reaction.
