Day 16 - Favourite female character
Going old school for this, but it has to be Queen Lucy the Valiant, or Lucy Pevensie (which I know I am going to mangle into pensieve.) if people are going to be awkward about it.
I think partly it might well have been an age thing, or to quote a friend who I squawked at when he was mean about Lucy, 'exactly how young, short and dumpy were you at the time?' The answers, by the by, are 4-5ish, very and very. So there may have been an element of identification going on.
The other thing is that there's a reason she's 'The Valiant'. It's because there's as much bravery in the mopping up as there is in the fighting, and that's what she does. Also being brave is about facing your fears, it doesn't mean not having them. And the very important detail that one should be both polite and curious.
I don't think my take away message that all wardrobes should be checked for passages to secret worlds was probably not quite as correct, but it doesn't mean it shouldn't be done. I think that was one of the things that I liked about Narnia, thinking back on it, is that it was so possible, because wardrobes contained all kinds of wonderful things, like Christmas presents. And of course someone evil would make it always winter and never Christmas. Or that in other fantasy stories it's power that tempts, but in this its Turkish delight. It's a very cosy sort of fantasy universe.
