Firstly, I have to say thank you for having such a rational viewpoint on the hobbit films. Yes, it will be different. No, that does not mean it will be 'bad'. Of course, if all you want is to see precise book canon played out on the screen, in the way that you imagined it, then you'll very likely be disappointed. I also think that some people get themselves so wound up to dislike the thing that that's precisely what they end up doing, regardless of how the film actually turns out.
Anyhow.

ALSO. YES to TOS. I grew up on it; I can't help but love it to death. I love DS9 to pieces, too, but TOS is just... well. The original. And the third season wasn't all that terrible, really. Yes, there were some bad eps, but there were some of those in every season.
I also agree re: Kirk and skirt-chasing. I don't deny that he's a womaniser, but I do take issue with the way some portray him, namely, as putting his libido over absolutely everything else in his life. Including the 'Fleet, and his ship. Oi.
