Day 2 - Your least favourite song

It was a choice between something manufactured and soulless such as Westlife at their worst, something emo and hystrionic, like 'My Friends Over You' by New Found Glory or a bad example of a genre I love such as 'Dig' by Mudvayne, but in the end, there could be only one answer.

It's hard trying to figure out what I hate most about this, we have a choice between little miss no-empathy, the narrator, the lyrics rhyming 'boy' with 'boy', that it's a terrible tune or the fact that Avril Lavigne has a career as a singer despite being flatter than I am.

The other music is much more my thing.

Kula Shaker are/were a UK band from the 90s. They caused havok and confusion wherever they went despite playing what was, basically, Indian-influenced stoner rock (discussion of whether or not they're co-opting a culture of theirs is probably a discussion for another time. I still don't know where I stand on that, I mean, 4 English public school boys with the occasional zitar, but at the same time, Crispin Mills is a Hindu so it's his own religion he's snipping bits from).

I love them. I finally got hold of their debut album, K, which reminds me of my first year of high school.

First a video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svvoUz2aPiM Them, about 4 years ago, doing their cover of Led Zepplin's 'Hush' live. They've got it live (why yes, I have seen them live, and yes, I have a t-shirt).

The other three tracks I'm sharing are the other 3 singles from around that time.

The thing I hate about that song is that it pretends to be indie but it's all about material success. If the Sk8ter Boi wasn't rockin' up MTV, would Avril Lavigne have made the wrong choice and would the other girl have made the right one? Not everyone gets to marry a rock star. Plus there's the whole your-only-validation-is-your-partner's-success thing. Totally not what I look to the indie kids for.
