This time from Leicester to Scotland and back. A collegue was getting married.

I read the Metro from Leicester to Crewe and slept from Wigan Northwest-ish to Preston. Definitely the right idea; I was getting seriously grumpy and felt much better afterwards.

Following on from the recent pattern, this one I liked less than fandom in general seemed to. Not that it was bad, Toby Jones in particular was awesome, but I just didn't think it was brilliant either.

My main problem was with Rory's ponytail. Surely someone in the make-up or visual FX departments has seen a ponytail before, even a sad-sack one. That was the most unrealistic ponytail I ever did see, which ruined a bit of the plot, because there was no way that reality was the real one. N suggested that the unreal feel of that reality was deliberate in order to facilitate the twist at the end.

That being said, Karen Gillan acted her socks off in the bit where Rory dies and the scene that followed where the Doctor and Amy drive into the house was spectacular, because the Doctor was willing to die with her if she was wrong, and do it in the hope that she was right when he couldn't decide/figure the mystery out.

Also, of course she chose Rory :D

Does anyone agree with me that the Doctor was either lying or, at the very least, not telling the whole truth at the end. Either Matt Smith or the Moff, or some combo of the two have given the Doctor a fantastically interesting tell. If the Doctor squares his shoulders, looks at you straight in the eye and gives off a general air of sincerity, then he's lying, and that's what he was doing in that scene.

I'm with everyone else that that was a bit meh, but it was totally setting up part 2 so I forgive it.

There was still lots of yay though:
- yay Robert Pugh. He's totally going to break my heart in part 2 though, isn't he?
- yay, wee small child. Also yay for a positive portrayal of someone with dyslexia.
- yay, adorable Dad who you'd better not kill off Moffatt. I think wee small child totally knew the Doctor was trying to cheer him up with 'of course I'll get your father back."
- yay for cheep scares such as the bit with Amy in the excessively narrow glass case and the dissection scene.

Biggest yay was the scene where the Doctor was interogating the Silurian and she's pretending she's the last one left and he just goes 'no'. Matt Smith can do scary very well. Like when he was smiling at Signora Calvierri, there are sometimes knives in his smile.

And, of course, yay for "I'm sure it's only a small settlement." Has he ever been right when he's said something like that?

Interesting article in the Times. Female journalist saying the reason she hated going to weddings was because she'd yet to come out to her friends and they all thought she needed a boyfriend.

I'm not going to say she's wrong, but from the way her description went, it sounded more like it was going stag she objected to, and, as she had no girlfriend at time of writing, it wasn't like that was going to change. It'd be interesting to see a follow-up article, but I can imagine there not being one.

Meme:

Post a topic, list, category, whatever, in my comments section. (examples: "5 Sexiest Things About Ron Weasley" or "Top 5 things to drink"). Then, in a separate post, I'll post the answers to all your Top 5 ideas, according to me. Then you post this offer in your own journal.

They will be done eventually, but you all know how long it normally takes me :)
