Doctor Who - Gridlock
Apr. 14th, 2007 08:27 pmThat was good.
However I wish to register a complaint. Dr. Who is supposed to be a space opera, an occasionally scary space opera, it's not supposed to make me cry. Floods thereof.
That being said, this is probably second only to The Empty Child as my favourite episode of New Who. And that is praise indeed for it is running it very close.
So much love.
Although I think using Abide With Me is a cheap shot because that's one of those songs that make me tear up. I should at some point chronicle Abide With Me and I's long and somewhat bizarre history but all that needs to be said is that it's a beautiful tune.
Tennant still can't do angry properly but everything else he brought with a vengence.
Because the Face of Boe is also not supposed to make me cry. Ditto the cat people. Although I wish to once again point out how much better animatronics are than cgi. Also the crab aliens were kind of useless. Bad cgi, bad!
There were kittens and humans being human and dumb and stupid and wonderful and quirky and occasionally cat shaped and yes, RTD can not for the life of him write sci-fi, but he writes people so beautifully that I will put up with him getting an episode now and again. That's probably the best way to do it, only let him do 3 or 4 episodes a season and leave the rest to more sci-fy types. And make Stephen Moffat write at least one a year also. MMMM Moffaty goodness.
I think that may make no sense on re-reading but I am still a little overwhelmed. So very, very good.
