The language in this was marvelous. Just dead-on marvelous. Good ole boy, yet exposed and aching. There were a bunch of quote-worthy lines, but And then there's how he's not even right certain that he wants to chase after James. He thinks this must be the shock the doctors keep talking about because despite all the evidence to the contrary, and it's starting to pile up now, he can't get angry at James. was my absolute favorite. I love the shock, the utter disbelief that he would be betrayed.
I think writing this as gen instead of slash made the betrayal feel worse. I love that you took the tough road instead of the easy, melodramatic one. The situation just felt so much worse-- love comes and goes, but friends are supposed to be there forever.
