Since it will see the first use of the disco alarm clock. Be worried, be very worried.

I'm using the ski-jumping icon since I watched some of that today. The prime match-up tomorrow will be Jacuba Janda v Janne Ahonen (the guy in my icon). Should be good except I won't be able to watch it since I'm finally going to see Goblet of Fire. Expect long post on that tomorrow. Expect a long rant if they've got Diggory wrong - sorry I fell for Diggory in Prisoner of Azkaban when he wanted the result of Hufflepuff v Gryffindor wiped because it wasn't Harry's fault that he got spooked by the Dementors.

On a Harry Potter tip, I've done some work on my Remnants ficathon fic, and some reading up in the HP lexicon so the background of what I write should work. Well a lawyer could find fault in it, but that's about it.

Watched some of the Strongman event shown on Eurosport today, loved it as usual. Most of them were their usual adorable selves and there was this one American competitor who was just so deeply cool - has an idea for my next icon.

Also watched some of the Nordic Combined. Way to go Felix Gottwald - seriously, he made up 45 seconds in the cross-country skiing part. I feel sorry for Hannu Manninnen though, he really didn't look well at the end, even if none of them ever do.

Anyway, at the end one of the Norwegians was getting changed and you saw his underwear (grey boxers for those interested), and then later on Mariuz Pudzianowski got stripped down to his underwear (black speedo-type cut) and I got to thinking, in relation to something usually said about wrestle-fic, which is the distinct lack of foreplay and is it because people are used to seeing the wrestlers in little more than their underwear so it's felt that there's not as much need to write a convincing way of getting them down to them and then out of them?

That shall be my random thought of the day.

Also, about the foreplay in wrestlefic, that's entirely possible. They're half-naked all the time anyhow, so I suppose people think they've already taken the first step? I disagree with the lack of need for foreplay, but whee.

Random strongmen babble/questions:

I'm not up to date with them anymore, weep. Is Magnus Sammuelson still competing? Or my Viking, Svend? And is Mariusz still pretty much killing the competition? Or Janne (I will butcher this) Viertinen? Cause it seems like every three years, someone new comes onto the scene and everyone else is blown away. I wish ESPN would play the WSM more than one time per year. Or play the current year instead of 2004 over and over...

Feel free to ignore this, but I love the strongmen (the Viking especially) and hate how little info I get about them.

Oh no, I think foreplay is erotic fic is vital but I can see why people don't.

Gosh my English is awful sometimes ;)

Feel free to talk about Strongman anytime.

No problem with the babble I'm glad someone else likes strongman competitions.

I think Magnus is out injured, something called an IT belt (well that's what Mum heard, what was actually said could be totally different) snapped while he was lifting something and his back went ping and he's injured.

Don't know about the Viking, haven't seen his name but the 2005 Championship is being shown on Channel 5 this week so I'll see if he's mentioned.

Mariusz is still sweeping away all in his path, except last year he didn't, this Ukrainian guy called Virastchuk (spelling is phonetic rather than correct) won. Then again he's as big and scary as Mariuz.

Virtannen is back after an injury lay-off, back problems from what the commentator was saying, and in the qualifier for the World title competition they were showing today, he qualified for the final. Mariuz has already qualified as has Virastchuk, an Austrian (yay), Dave Olsen (or something like it, of the US and 6 foot 7), another American, another Pole and another Finn.

I'm quite lucky, when I'm home I get to watch Eurosport which shows Strongman quite a bit, and Channel 5 are starting to cover it properly as well so I can watch it at uni.

There was an American strongman called Jesse Marunde and he was so cool. Sweet and given to telling children to eat their greens but infinitely cool. Unfortunately he pulled his hamstring in the event where they have to carry a weight round in a circle (Hercule's Circle or something, I think).

And another Ukranian who is actually a missile engineer by training and is like an authority or something on them.

Ha, I just now saw that you replied. Yay Livejournal!

Anyway, poor Magnus. Bah, that's sad.

I'm guessing that the other Magnus, Ver Magnusson, has already retired. I know he was injured in '04 and I don't think he could finish the competition that year, never even made it to the finals. If I'm thinking of the right Magnus, anyway.

And someone as scary as Mariusz?? Excuse me while I hide and fear for my life. Mariusz is a machine.

And bah, poor Viking. I hope he retired on his own and wasn't pushed out by injury, though. I hate to see someone go like that.

I say strongmen deserve better prizes when they win a competition. Their payoff is so tiny (or at least it was leading up to 2004, anyway, when I lost track of them) and it is ridiculous. My brother at one time was training for a strongman competition (but he was mainly a powerlifter so he could never get that extra little bit that strongmen need) so I know that they pretty much kill themselves for this stuff.

I think Ver Magnusson is retired.

He was less 'oh dear God that man is not normal' scary but more pyschologically pumped up scary.

It's really wierd, all the sports I like where you have to have some unusual skill to be good at it, say Strongman or Ski-jumping, the pay off is really small, in relative terms, but then football (soccer), which most people can play, they get huge amounts of money.
