Spent most of yesterday watching Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Would have watched Return of the King but there was a Trafalgar thing I wanted to watch and after that finished it was way too late to start watching ROTK.

Added thoughts having watched the films yet again: Orlando Bloom really doesn't do a bad job as Legolas, especially after Gandalf falls he's all 'well this is strange and new, and very, very bad'.

I love Gimli so very, very much. And casting Cate Blanchett was a great move.

I still say that Haldir's death is the best shot of all three films. Because all the other deaths are grand and dramatic and glorious while his is very 'this is a bad thing, stuff glory and whatnot'.

Mostly watching to try and expunge mad crying jag that I'd been on since watching the Edinburgh Military Tattoo. They were doing a Nelson thing and I just went into floods. Very, very odd. I know why, it was the whole 'thank God, I have done my duty' thing while dying. Then again he was a man who made jokes about Collingswood (?) only becoming fleet commander over his dead body at the same time.

I think they were all a bit stark, staring bonkers brave at that time though. During the Battle of the Nile, one of the French captains had his legs removed by a canonball shot and was bleeding to death, so he ordered his men to get the bran tub, stick him in and continued to order his ship about.

The Trafalgar thing was a docudrama about the Victory's ship surgeon. Was quite good too.

Onto other, non-nautical matters, happy birthday, Lossi. As promised here are some paragraphs of demented fic.

Andy had reached a decision. If he went into the hotel's dinning hall and Marat was there, he was turning round and checking out. Once, maybe three times could be a coincidence, booking into the same hotel six times in a row, that showed pre-meditation on Marat's part. Exactly why he was stalking Andy was beyond Andy but Andy was sure he was.

Okay, so looking around, Marat wasn't here. Okay, so possibly Andy had just been being a little paranoid. But he wasn't, Marat had been acting strangely, more strangely, and Andy seemed to be the focus of it. But things weren't always as they looked, Marat wasn't here, Andy was just being paranoid.

"Hello, Andy." Or maybe things were exactly how they looked and Marat was indeed stalking him.
"What are you doing here?"
"I'm staying here while the tournament is on." Marat stole a fry from Andy's plate.
"Just like the way you were just staying at the other hotels?"
"Exactly."
"I don't believe you."
"Well you know how it is, I'm a tall man, I find it difficult to find a bed to fit in."
"Hmm." That was true enough. But there had to be other hotels that had beds that would fit Marat.
Marat swung in close to steal another fry. "Also," he whispered into Andy's ear, "I am trying to, how do you say it, seduce you." In shock, Andy swallowed most of what was in his mouth in one gulp and nearly choked. "I said these things," Marat, back up to his usual volume, waved a fry in the air, "were bad for you. You should be glad I'm eating some of yours for you." He popped the fry into mouth and walked out of the door.

Andy pinched himself - no, this wasn't a dream. Marat had finally lost his mind. It had taken longer than expected. There were three courses of action open, one, ignore Marat and pretend he hadn't heard anything, which wouldn't work. Two, eat the rest of his dinner and then find Marat, except that the chicken and fries he wasn't supposed to be having didn't hold much appeal. Plus if his coach caught him, he'd be in for it. So that left option three, go find Marat and find out what he was up to.

Wheedling Marat's room number out of one of the girls on the reception desk, easier to do than he expected, he set off to the other side of the hotel. He got to the room, heard the off-key humming that was a definite sign that Marat was in his room. Andy knocked on the door, "Marat, let me in."
Marat did, he was wearing his usual t-shirt and shorts. "Hello, Andy."

There will be more, it might just take some time.
