The Case For The Prosecution:
As with several other adaptations in this list, one of the main problems is that it's not an adaptation. It's not even a vague adaptation. It's a case of "this film has been made by someone who has heard the idea of the comic third-hand through the medium of interpretive dance".
Okay, you probably can't do a full proper version of the story, not even with an 18 rating (and this is only a PG-12), but the way that the film provided something so different (and something so missing the point) riled people up.
Even people like me who hadn't read the comics had things to complain about. Mostly that that is not what Tom Sawyer grew up into. In no universe is that what Tom Sawyer grew up into.
Ahem. Sorry about that. It's just, yeah, that really annoyed me.
Lots of the other characters also suffered from that, they were not quite right, to either their original nature, or their League of Extraordinary Gentlemen version. Then Tom Sawyer, who isn't in the comics, got thrown in, for no obvious reason, unless it was to appeal to the American market because there were no other American characters. Oddly enough, I don't think it helped the film in the American market.
It's also not good on its own merits, with an over-reliance on CGI and telling-not-showing.

Why The Scene Is So Good:
I wanted to call this entry "Nemo fighting in the library", but the whole scene is quite good. It's fightsposition, but in a film where everything else is really heavy-handed, I will take my subtlety where I can find it.
Nemo is my favourite in the film, because while everyone else has either superpowers, or blessings, or what-have-you (or is Tom Sawyer who I choose to ignore), Nemo is just a man with ideas. Well, I say, just, but they're pretty damn awesome ideas, and I want a Nautilus all of my own.
I also like the bit when Mina's secret is revealed, and, for the only time in history, all the other characters (except Tom Sawyer who I choose to ignore) actual take a step back, because they are justifiably scared. It's such a nice touch!
