Which may have featured The Who.

Let's be honest. It did. And Paul Weller, and Johnny Marr and the Kaiser Chiefs.

It started off (after some travelling, including a very nice lady who gave me doughnuts) with Rival State.

Who are actually better live. Nothing special, but there are times when one requires loud. And they're good for that. And they swagger and growl and I am eternally the teenager that is impressed by that. (Also they are New Zealandish and M of M and L that I went with is also New Zealandish.)

Then, after some wandering, there was Johnny Marr, who was probably lucky that he who shall not be named was his singer*, but you know, there's nothing wrong with his version of most of the Smiths tracks and I got to hear him do 'I Fought The Law', which is a track that is always awesome.

He was followed by the Kaiser Chiefs. The Kaiser Chiefs!!! So cross another one off the bucket list, and I desperately need to see them headlining a gig somewhere. Even if Ricky is slowly turning into Howling Pelle Almqvist during the in-between song patter.

And I cannot convey how much running and jumping around that he did. Like the bit in 'I Predict A Riot' where there's 'oooh'ing and he's running + sliding to both sides of the stage and barely making it back to his microphone in time for the lyrics to start again. You can kind of see why he kept getting injured.

He also managed to sweat his way through a white t-shirt, it being a hot day and him jumping up and down a lot.

It was about now that the advantage of the giant screens became apparent. Because trees seemed to be the theme for the British Summer Time thingy that this was part of, so the stage was surrounded by two giant fake trees, so if you were to the side you couldn't see any of the stage. Guess where we were.

The screens worked round most of that problem, even if it did mean we were quite a way away from the main action (more of this later).

M only likes two Kaiser Chiefs songs, 'Every Day I Love You Less And Less' and 'Modern Way', and wasn't expecting the second. Of course, they both turned up, which lead to M getting the name of 'The Track Selecta'.

The Kaiser Chiefs's new stuff sounds very Duran Duran. There may have been jokes on this topic.

Next up was Paul Weller who played the calm before the storm set. The only track I desperately wanted to hear was 'From The Floorboards Up' but I would I have loved to have him do 'Wild Wood'. M says that he doesn't think we'll get 'Wild Wood' but that From The Floorboards Up' will be one of the first five. It was the third track. Which lead to a non-wagered bet that M couldn't guess the first Who track. He didn't want to say what he thought it would be, lest it ruin the surprise so I suggested he send a text message to L, and we'd check it after the first song.

Anyway, the Who come on, and the first thing Pete Townsend says is "you are all very far away," but that the band would do their best to ensure that we could here them. Needless to say, they succeeded.

The first track was 'I Can't Explain' as M predicted.

It was pretty much a chronological greatest hits, and I discovered a new appreciation for 'I Can See For Miles' which was helped by the trippy video being played on the screens.

It says something about Roger Daltrey's vocal range that the audience sing along with the Townsend parts ;) And he's still got most of it. And he can still hit that scream in 'Won't Get Fooled Again' which, both yeah, and was the most amazing set closer.

The weather and setting wasn't bad either. )

I had an awesome time.

* I was a Morrissey fan surrounded by Marr fans, I kept quiet.

I tried to watch Seven Psychopaths, I really did. It features all the things I like, dark humour, a certain arch panache, Colin Farrell (and Sam Rockwell and Christopher Walken giving an actual performance) and so on. But it was so unpleasant, and I knew nothing good was going to happen to the characters I actually liked so I gave up.
