redfiona99: (Thinking)
Or the one time a year I give a damn about rugby union.

I was pleased that the first week contained all the matches that I hate, seeing as how it featured the side I want to win vs the other side that I like, two sides that I want to do well for no good reason and the two sides that I want to see lose. I will return to liking Wales, or at least not ending up happy that England beat them, when they sack Warren Gatland. Which will hopefully occur shortly after their embarrassing first round exit at the World Cup.

Week two should have been better. I'm not sure it was.

Italy are definitely improving, but still lost heavily to England.

Wales won, helped by interesting application of the obstruction rule, a rule so byzantine no union fan can actually explain it to me.

And Ireland. Well Ireland won. Against France. Which is unusual. And they only had one player injured so badly that he's out for the rest of the tournament (damn you, Pascal Pape).

And yet, oh dear God, that was the most boring game of alleged rugby I have seen in many years. It only became interesting when France gave up and decided to run for it (the substitutions might have had something to do with it).
