redfiona99: (Thinking)
Lie To Me

It's just perfect.

It's the mixture of real world things, like Angel being adorably jealous and showing a personality and a sense of humour (that shot where he's complaining about the wannabe vamps, and one walks past and is dressed exactly like him) and all the other things that mean I ended up missing him when he turned into Angelus, and the supernatural, so the vampire plot. And also mortality, because Ford's whole plot is based on him not dying. And you can understand that, even while what he's doing is horrible.

Then there's Buffy winning the day by threatening Drusilla which is the one thing Spike won't stand for. (And, fair warning for future answers, I am decidedly, entirely, utterly Spike 'n' Dru forever.)

And then there's the ending, with Buffy and Giles in the graveyards and, I'm just going to quote the whole thing:

Buffy: Does it get easier?
Giles: What do you want me to say?
Buffy: Lie to me.
Giles: Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats. We always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.
Buffy: Liar.

And it's about the loss of innocence, and letting go of childhood, because Buffy wants to believe it will get easier, needs to believe that, but knows that it won't. That's probably my favourite scene in all of Buffy.
