Just found out Austria's draw.

We get Germany, Croatia and Poland.

I am laughing so hard here. It's like if England got Scotland and Wales in their draw. Given that the national side has rolled over for Germany before, and that half the players are from Croatia, it makes Poland the odd men out here. But then again, a goodly number of the German squad are Polish by birth.

So yes, it's very much keeping it in the family. I see no chance of Austria progressing, but where there's sport, there's hope, right?!

Avoiding a cricket score against Germany would suit me fine.

Since it's now December I feel no guilt in posting this:

Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. (Email address: red_fiona99@hotmail.com)

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use—or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free—do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf—to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not — it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

I only have one wish:

The Amnesty Greetings card campaign (http://www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=10673)

I know I say this every year, but if you've got a greetings card going spare, send it to one of these cases.

If you're in the US and don't want to send one overseas, there's one action based in New York. It's a case of two transgender women who were abused by the NYPD purely because of their gender. Full details here - http://www.amnesty.org.uk/actions_details.asp?ActionID=361

For the Ukers there's one for the poor unfortunates still stuck in Guantanamo (which is still illegal, immoral and vile) - details here http://www.amnesty.org.uk/actions_details.asp?ActionID=366

Also on that page is an e-mail you can send to your MP to try and get the government to get up off its backside to do something about it.

All of the cases are deeply worthwhile, so I have no doubt that you'll find a case that interests you.

I have been working on writing up a list of all the WIPs I'm working on, only it's long, and they're scattered in many locations.

The worst of it is that the flow of fics that I finish by going through my WIPs also hasn't happened, there's only one I've finished, and only one I've made any real progress on.

So, yes, I'm more than slightly blocked. Like I said there's a couple of things moving forward but they're in such a minority and the rest are going so slowly. It's like wading through treacle. I am not a happy bunny.

I also got an interesting review on an X-men fic claiming that Gambit doesn't always speak in the 3rd person. Except he does. While he's not quite as bad as the Rock, I would challenge anyone to find a story where he appears where he does not spend at least 3/4s of his time speaking in the 3rd person. But never mind... I shouldn't complain about actually getting reviews.

The one thing that is finished is minor character Seaquest DSV fic.
