So I read this column in the hope, the vain hope, that it will get my rotiserrie numbers up (in the head to head league I'm like 3rd somehow)

>>Penalty Shots: Picking a winner for this week's Mario Lemieux Award was tough. I could have gone with Pavol Demitra, who had the award named after him last season, since he is missing the next couple games due to the chicken pox, and I could have also chosen Jochen Hecht because of him having part of his ear sliced off by a slap shot, but I went with a man who is as fragile as Nicklas Lidstrom is durable.

Pavel Bure gets the award for excellence at getting injured this week. The jury is still out on whether he tore the ACL in his left knee, although he seems to have sprained or ripped every other cartilage, ligament or meniscus in it, so it is likely the ACL is damaged in one way or another. <<

The ML award is the award for most injured player. And lets just say that it's just my luck that Demitra and Hecht are both on my team. But it's on my head to head team oddly enough.

On the football (soccer) one I'm doing incredibly badly, but my favourite player (on my team anyway) has now returned which is yay.

Will be back soon with pictures of him and various others, if and when I can find them.

Okay sent this once and it didn't come through (my fault, sorry) but I'm kind of glad because I found some far better pictures. I love him and all, but he looks awful on posed photos.

Anyway, other than the real sweet smile, and the liking of horse racing, the main reason I like him is because he's loyal to his club. Even if you hate the team, you have to admire that.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present Ray Parlour (also known as Razor)

Okay since Arsenal were playing Valencia, I thought might tempt those unconverted to the true football with a few pics.

Valencia

My poor bloody nosed Kily first - http://212.4.96.248/images/jugadores/KILY%20GONZALEZw.jpg

(The bloody nose was at the World Cup, and since he got it playing for a team I dislike, it says something about him that he's still one of my favourites. Liked him anyway, but playing on got extra smiles from me.)

Pablo Aimar, or the next Maradona if you buy into the hype. Good player either way. http://212.4.96.248/images/jugadores/AIMARw.jpg

And now for Ayala, the best defender playing at the minute (and no, whatever his team's results, that is a statement of fact.) http://212.4.96.248/images/jugadores/AYALAw.jpg

Now for the Arsenal (quite when they picked up the definite article is beyond me)

I would post a picture of Robert Pires, seeing as he is now well again, and plays a good game, but sadly his face is suffering an outbreak of face fuzz, that rivals Jericho's in it's awfulness so I'm not going to.

Dennis Bergkamp, responsible for at least one of my 'net aliases, and generally one of the greatest players I have ever seen. Want to know what great is to me, when me and my friends discuss goals he scored 5 years ago, with reverance and awe, and perfect recall. That was his golden year and I have honestly never seen anyone play better.

And of course he was also in the Reebok adverts, which are rivalled only by the recent Nike ones for sheer goodness. The plot was basically, what would footballers have ended up doing if they hadn't been given Reebok boots at a young age. Bergkamp ended up as a cheesemaker, Schmeichel was a pig farmer (which had me in hysterics) and Andy Cole was a fish and chips shop worker.

And a recent youth team graduate.
