Odysseus IS kind of a devious, manipulative sod. His 20 years of wandering IS mostly his own damn fault. But he's also terrifically cool. I mean. I think that's the thing, really. Odysseus, Achilles, et al are both moron and genius, egoist and selfless. They're both good things and bad, which makes them interesting to read.
As for Troy, the movie, however, I hold much similar anxiety as well. I sincerely doubt they will make Achilles whiny, as evidenced by the casting of Brad Pitt into the role. I think they will make him all ANGSTY and TRAGIC, which is ultimately cool by me, 'cause Brad does ANGSTY and TRAGIC very well. I DO hope, however, that they will make him a bastard, because Achilles totally is. And Brad Pitt also does bastard really well.
Paris = TOOL. Orlando Bloom = TOOL. Therefore, perfect casting. *G* My only major worry about Troy, honestly, is my fear of the Orly fangirls leaping aboard Troy and commence with the degradation of Greek mythology.
