The promised happy, happy, joy, joy post.
Jul. 30th, 2003 11:51 pmI was going to write one but then I watched the news. Always a bad idea. And now I've forgotten what I was going to say.
I'd be more worried about my lack of short-term memory if it wasn't for the fact that I've been this way since childhood :)
I will try.
Saw Kickboxer and Mortal Kombat:Conquest (which was the live action TV series) in a 2 for £10 DVD offer in TJs. I am mighty tempted.
They stopped making Firefly just as it was getting good. Grr at TV execs.
And even bigger grr because they're threatening to remake Blake's 7, because the BBC think that the sets and SFX on the original were too bad. They have a point, but the reason for watching wasn't them, it was the acting and the scripts, and they're going to mess with them. Gah.
Seen the Prisoner of Azkaban pics and have the following to say - The Knight Bus and Stan are perfect. I apologise to Gary Oldman for ever doubting his ability to do anything he damn well pleases. Michael Gambon looks scarily like Richard Harris in the photos, so mega-huge props to the make up department. Lupin still doesn't look right but I can live with that. Personally I always saw him as tall and thin, sort of skeletal and ropey with old raggy clothing.
Oh yeah, and the new director is edible.
Musically, I've been mostly listening to pop-punk, punk-rock, punk, that end of things. And renewing my aquaintance with nu-metal (what is it with music journalists now classing every new band as emo?)
The new Rancid song is every teenage boy who's ever been let down by a girl.
I could not be more in love with the new Spineshank song if I tried.
The new Adema one is growing on me. The new Korn one isn't.
Am discovering a dreadful fondness for Madchester and Ian Brown/Stone Roses in particular.
The new(ish?) Chimera is rather good too.
I want either Perry Farrell or Robert Trujo's knees. Probably the monster bass player because he like me isn't a stick insect.
Q music are having a mix week. All the oldies and goldies are there (Q-Tip and Micheal Jackson, Britney and Eminem) plus some crazy new ones, my own favourite being 'Last Night' by the Strokes mixed with 'Genie in A Bottle'. Because it sounds good.
I've finally figured out what the appeal of the Yeah,Yeah,Yeah's Karen O is. Her pose is intelligent slut so all the 'sensitive' boys who like her can say they're not just after body. I don't get it, and despite what my male friends say, it's not jealousy. Without her, they're a poor version of alt-rock as done by Sonic Youth. With her, they're a poor verison of Sonic Youth with an awful lead singer who sell loads of records because boys want to fuck the lead singer.
I think that's it. See that was filled with the yay.
