Last year, they made a remaster of "Withnail and I" and I went to see it with D at the Mockingbird Cinema.

The Mockingbird Cinema, in all its hipster glory, is one of the places I look forward to going back to after this is all over.

Anyhow, I didn't think "Withnail and I" was the kind of film that needed a remaster, no-one watches it for the visuals, and I am not sure the world is ready for Paul McGann in high definition. (His eyes are so very blue) I'm also not sure it was a complete remaster, because the outdoor scenes in the Lake District continue to look grainy, but I'm not going to object to seeing it again.

One of the trailers was for Bohemian Rhapsody. D is enough older than me that he was mostly a sapient being during the events of the film, and he doesn't get it. He'd love to know why they mangled history so much given how recent the history was. He understood the dramatic reasoning, but anyone his age is going to go, "yeah, but no". It'd be interesting to split critical reaction to the film by age, to see if there is a difference, and whether that's part of the reason for the critics's verdicts or not.
