Harry Potter Predictions
Jun. 19th, 2003 11:16 pmOkay so before the biology exam my friends and I were discussing who we thought she will kill off.
Harry Potter - two people forwarded this view but were promptly shouted down. He is the hero of the books, he won't die, or if he does it will be in the last book.
Hermionie - several people suggested her. And several other people were horrified at the idea. Possibly, but it would be a little radical for a children's book.
Hagrid and Dumbledore - everyone's already speculated about this, various friends made very, very bad jokes. I don't think it will be either of these two because that's too obvious, and she's very rarely that obvious.
Snape - the objection made was that he was too well hated to be killed off. Ditto Crabbe, Goyle and Draco, there would be no sadness, only cheering.
Professor McGonagall - the objection raised to my suggestion was that she wasn't a big enough character.
Remus Lupin/Sirius Black - I suggested Lupin, objections were made on the grounds that he's already had his drama. So Steph suggested Sirius. The only object was that he was Harry's only remaining good relative, and hence couldn't be killed off without much doominess. I also objected on the grounds of being quite fond of him.
Ginny Weasley - objection, she's already had her drama.
Mr. Weasley - everyone seemed to quite like this as a possible idea. It provides the right amount of pathos (he's a really nice character) yet without completely shaking the foundations.
It might amuse you all to know that the only major character not put up for death was Ron Weasley.
Anyway, afterwards Chris gave me a lift, and he and his Dad were talking about it, and they drifted on to the topic of fan-fiction, and said how it didn't matter what happened, those weirdos on the internet would write different versions. They even mentioned slash fiction :)
But yes, Chris, who as you can see isn't into fan-fiction, voiced his objection to self-insertion fics. See, even non-fandom types hate Mary-sues.

Date: 2003-06-19 06:27 pm (UTC)My poor best friend had never heard of it and now has to deal with me telling her about mine all the time. Patience of a saint, that girl.
And my only real thought on HP killings is that if they kill Snape now, he really hasn't had his chance to either prove to be really evil, or to prove that he really is a changed man and no longer in on all that death eater fun.
You know they throw the best parties.
