You're Italy!
You pretty much feel like you are the most long-standing bastion of
civilized humanity on the face of the earth. While this is probably not true, you
do have a noted history of living the good life and spreading culture to those around you.
More recently, however, things have started to slide and you're having a hard time
staying together and not getting beaten up. People still like to ask you how it was
to be the center of high culture, but your days at the top are long past you. Avoid
volcanoes, flooding, and unstable buildings wherever possible.

Italy is a result I like. Because, yes, lovely country, lovely food, lovely people.
So I was cheering for Slovakia. Mum didn't give one, and Nan wanted England to lose because of the Beckham to-do. More of that in another cut-line.
Rather bad match. England won. Slovakian goalie should have been man of the match. Slovakia's goal was odd. Kind of shocking, cool but shocking.
The penalty that was given wasn't one, and the one that wasn't given should have been. Owen Hargreaves and Michael Owen are both divers, worse than any Italians I've ever seen and edging into Argentine territory.
Ref had a bad match.
If there had to be an English Man of the Match it should have been Frank Lampard, because he tried. But no, it will be Owen because he scored the two England goals, and it was his 50th match for England. Bah. To quote Nan, 'They think the sun shines out of his backside.'
Nan is not a fan, Mum is not a fan, and I don't think he's all he's cracked up to be.
Wayne Rooney is too young for the England team. Give him another couple of years to develop.
The England team only started to come together when Darius Vassell (the only bright spot of being a Villa fan) came on. I remember them not playing him because he was too young, and he was older than Rooney then. Bah.
BTW, is it me or is Danny Mills the worst player ever to wear the shirt. He's terrible.
In other footie related news, Austria won 5-0 to keep their qualification hopes alive, trouble was so did the Czech republic meaning that Austria are pretty much doomed.
And now for pictures.

Much as I hate to do this, I have to side with the PFA, Man United have treated him shamefully. In a world where star players come and go into teams like the pitch was a revolving door, Beckham has been with Utd since he was 14, and he doesn't want to go.
Barcalona want him. Real Madrid might want him. The two Milans might want him. Trouble is he plays a very English game so of the lot of them I think the only place where he would fit in is Real.
Poor man.
Nan isn't a big football fan, but she likes Beckham. A lot. And therefore she presently hates Man Utd and Alex Ferguson. In fact she's presently suggesting interesting ways of killing Fergie.
Mum is having a whale of a time, trying not to laugh. Me, I'm just enjoying the insanity.
That's it.
