It wasn't just the volume of the gathering that was ridiculously large, the amount of food and beer they were putting away was remarkable. The food reminded Bilbo of his own family's get-togethers, which were never quite as rowdy as this, although Bilbo was always the quietest person there too. It wasn't just the food and the good-natured teasing that was similar, it was the way everyone was swapping stories that were probably true, even if they'd been tidied up and embroidered for company.
