Questions about fic titles (or rather, rude fic titles)

Question is not-quite-hypothetical, given I've only just started writing the fic and we know I write at snail's pace.

If a fic has an actually rude title, would you all prefer I just headed the post "Fic - The one with the incredibly rude title" in the subject line?

Fabric Craft Question and the Gym

Fabric craft queston - any hints or tips when working with slightly stretchy material?

Long story short - I finally found the perfect solution for my hair, it's sort of a fabric tube.

Problem - Claire's Accessories have stopped selling them. Therefore, unless someone can tell me what they're really called, simplest solution seems to be trying to make some.

Gym - so I've been adding some yoga to my cool down on weight day, trying to increase flexibility and reduce injury. Supine twists, where have you been all my life? Of course, having loosened off some muscles that have been tightening up for ~ 2 years, the whole area is now sore. I don't think I've pulled anything, I think it's just a "unusual movement" reaction from my hip. Particularly my right one.

Gym Advice Requested

Lunges, how I both love and hate thee.

As you can imagine, a fencing lunge (example here https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/283375001527549801/) and a gym lunge (example here - https://blog.fitbit.com/fitbit-basics-how-to-do-the-perfect-lunge/) are different beasts using different muscles. I do fencing lunges when I lunge, and I do gym lunges in the gym. I started doing them when one of the (then) Birmingham Uni PTs wrote my programme for me.* I think they help, not least of all because when I do them they hit that point of "hurts so good" that people who do physical exercise will recognise as working a muscle that needs it.

Gym I now go to since I move back to Birmingham has an equally lovely PT who I will give money to check my form once all things COVID have calmed down. Once, unprompted, she pointed out that my gym lunge form was pretty shonky. I've been working on my form ever since, and have been doing them unweighted. (She also suggested reverse lunges. They break my brain.)

I think I am at the point where my form is good enough that I could add weights. But at the same time, I'm not sure if I ought to because the form is so much more important. So suggestions, comments, etc greatly welcomed.

*Note, dude has now moved on from Birmingham but his programme still works for me. He remains the only person who has ever got "my purpose for this is to improve my ability to hit people with swords and not be hit. Also, I can't do much that involves my wrists going at 90 degrees". I am not saying this is because his sport was strongman and he was working round an elbow injury himself but ...

Anyone feel like beta-ing a 6500 word wrestling gen fic? Mostly I fear CM Punk does not sound like CM Punk.

Details for a fic

I need the name of an early-2000s US teen girl magazine to fit into the following sentence.

"They'd given him a hair cut, made him look like a jarhead, sure, but it was better than looking like the cover of (insert magazine here)."

I have no idea if Teen Beat was still going then, and I don't know if Just Seventeen was ever even a magazine in the US.

GIF making question

Can anyone recommend a good guide to making gifs? I have an urge. It has everything to do with Ace Austin getting in the bin.

Following on from a friend's interesting experiences, I was wondering if anyone else who has ever had a truly horrible boss had experience of how they reacted to fire alarms.

Full explanation, some time after 1st of September.

Book recs needed

I need a recommendation for a colleague. She wants a book to read on holiday, so preferably light reading. It also needs to be suitable for reading aloud because she reads books to the friend she travels with.

Wrestling Question

Can someone give me a brief check on whether or not I am hallucinating Mickie James getting involved in the end of the Noble vs Regal feud over Layla?

Because I swear it happened but the internet says no.

Then again, the JBL vs Jericho dog collar match I thought happened apparently didn't.

Apparently, when I write, I like to make things difficult for myself, because I have having to write a sex scene where no word can be explicit. Because argh! (actually because historical fiction and two characters who are both, for plot reasons, trying to ignore that they are having sex with each other).

For horrifying related reasons, I now need to know

1) did Belle Epoque Europe have lollipops?
2) What they called them, if they did?

Wikipedia is not being helpful.

Name that plant

Huge image below )

I suspect it's some form of mutant tulip. Certainly when the petals are closed it looks like a tulip but the bit where the petals join is pointy and angular rather than smooth the way tulips are. And it is in an overgrown garden so all kind of pollination could be occurring.

Brokenwood Mysteries fic recs plz

Because, yes, I would like some. Because all the fic I can find is about Breen. And no offence to Breen, he is my least favourite of the regulars.

(I am being good and not suggesting that the reason all the fic is about his is because he's the only white male under 40 in the main cast.)

Admittedly, there are only 4 1/2 people in the main cast but...

I do keep wondering if it's based on books or something, or if there is any explanation of why Jared appears, offers plot related info, gets a glass of wine from DI Sheppard and then vanishes off into the night.

Norse Mythology Question

It is that time of year again, where I list my WIPs and archive the ones that are going nowhere, slowly (my rule is if the last time I wrote anything is more than an Olympiad ago, it gets archived), and I have discovered that I require a Norse mythology equivalent of the Furies.

The two obvious things (Vali or any number of Norn) just don't work. I require something both tearing and flapping for my purposes. Ghostly and tearing will also do.

Anyone got any ideas?

Russian Bird Question

Friends, Romans, people who know about Russian wildlife - for a bit in a story I require a Russian bird. I would prefer if it were something small and fluttery. Any ideas? The web has not been useful.

Knitting Questions

So, I have a knitting pattern for a square. It is written by that same company I always complain about.

The pattern is:
Cast on 27 stitches
1st row: K to end
2nd - 4th rows: K to end
5th row: *K4, yarn forward, slip 1, knit 1, pass slipped stich over, repeat from * to last 3 stitches, k3
6th row: P to end
7th row: k2, knit 2 together, yarn forward, k1, yarn forward, slip 1, pass slipped stitch over, *k1, knit 2 together, yarn forward, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, pass over slipped stitch, repeat from * to last 2 stitches, k2.
8th row: P to end
(repeat these 8 till you have 32 rows, then K4 rows)

I just want to check that when I pass the slipped stitch over in the 5th row, I'm passing it back to my left hand needle.

Also, I'm not sure how this pattern doesn't end up with me having a lot fewer than 27 stitches by row 8. I suspect I'm supposed to be creating stitches somewhere, but I am not sure where.

HALP!

Please :)

Resource Question, Resource Answer

What are people using instead of Photobucket?

I can use Flickr for most things but there's a few things I'd rather not use Flickr for.

In exchange, if you want historical weather information for London, a website exists - http://www.london-weather.eu/article.87.html I may have been looking for information on 1946.

Crochet Question

I may be slowing defeating the crochet demon but I need to know, is it supposed to lie flat? When I do squares they come out ... ridged. Are you supposed to not turn or turn the piece at the end of each row? I think it's one of those obvious questions that are too obvious for the crochet magazines to mention.
