I told you his excuse would be fantastic

From Eurosport, excuse bolded:

But the 33-year-old, who bounced back from losing nearly 30 minutes in Sunday's mountain stage by winning in the Pyrenees on Monday, has denied the allegation.

He told L'Equipe: "It's a mistake. I never doped, that's not the way I see my profession.

"I think it's a mistake in part due to my crash. I have spoken to the team doctors who had a hypothesis that there was an enormous amount of blood in my thighs, which could have led to my positive test.

"I heard that I made a transfusion with my father's blood. That's absurd, I can tell you that with his blood, I would have tested positive for vodka.

"The setting up of our team made a lot of people jealous and now we're paying the price. It's a shame to leave the Tour this way, but I don't want to waste time in proving my innocence."

I love him.

That...is...spectacular!

Athletes all over the world should make up ridiculous explanations like that instead of using the tired old 'Well, I used this cream...' or 'My trainer gave me something and didn't tell me what it was...'

The world would be a much more hilarious place.

I told you it would be. The best of it, it's both out there and possible (I think, blood's not one of my areas of knowledge). I don't think anything has yet beaten 'someone spiked my drink', but this comes close.

Another good one

Although this chap was actually innocent, was that one of the UK skiers got done for doping because Vicks Sticks in the US have different things in them than in the UK. The ones in the UK are fine, the US ones have some sort of stimulant in them.

Then there's Dennis Mitchell who got away with the following excuse - he had excessively high testosterone in his blood because he'd had sex with his wife 4 times the night before and had had 2 bottles of beer as well. That's my favourite ever.
