redfiona99: (peeved and annoyed)

Fun first and then the argh

The friend who I went up to see in Carlisle came out with this on Monday night - her mother was wondering if I was Jewish. I am amused, Mother is confused and thinks that Ruth's Mum is mad because of my Austrian grandparents had to live during the Nazi era and therefore had to have a pass that said they weren't Jewish up to 3 generations before them. What my mother hasn't considered is that people did get away with all kinds. While I still prefer the Turkish suggestion, fuck knows why I'm this colour. I mean I know which side of the family it's from (father's mother) but beyond that god knows, I mean it could be Turkish, Italian, Slavic, Jewish, Roma, anything. I quite like the mystery, and at least it means I don't look English.

On a similar tip there was an article in the Independent today that was saying that 1 in 8 Irish men can trace their Y-chromosome back to one man in the 9th Century who could be King Niall. Now since that's where part of my heritage comes from, I'm an Ui Niall (O'Neil for those trying to make sense of these ramblings - yea though we spell it differently) on my Mother's side and I quite like that idea too.

Also Trivium are the cutest metal band ever.

The argh is that I'm definitely not being interviewed for the 4 year course at Cambridge or Dundee. I know this because one of my coursemates is. The annoying thing is that they didn't even bother e-mailing me to tell me that I wasn't. Seriously how much time would that have taken.

Anyway so I am slightly annoyed so I am going on a mini-spending spree tomorrow looking for food.

*hugs* That's shitty, the least they could've done is send an email.

Exactly. It's not like I'm asking for much.

It's not like it's a minimum of the next 4 years of your life or anything.

Arseholes.

What happened with Manchester?

Manchester's application system's just a bit wierd. Like they want me to get my references and upload them and I don't like doing that because references are supposed to be, like, hidden from the person they're about.

Eugh, I had the option of seeing the references my teachers wrote for UCAS and I was like "NO! Some of them have know me since I was 11! I don't wanna know what they think of me!" It feels weird reading your own references.
