Serenity
Since there's nothing I can say without it being spoilers
Okay the next person on my f-list to see Joss Whedon must first thank him for the film and then put him over their knees and spank him. Don't do that to Wash.
I am still more than a little peeved about the demise of Wash. He did it brilliantly though. Rewatching the series is going to be a little like rewatching early M*A*S*H once you know what happens to Henry. Ack! And Zoe keeping it together, mostly, makes me love her even more. Plus, that and the discussion about the ship at the end is as much Mal asking Zoe how she is without asking and I love Joss for remembering that that is so how those two interact.
And Jayne coming through in a pinch was cool, even if when him, the Doc and Kaylee all got shot I was worrying that Joss was going for a Blake's 7 ending.
I am well aware that there is a whole rest of film, not just the last fight, I'm getting to it.
River is freaking scary when she goes all 'killing machine' on everyone. The twin brothers meanwhile were amusing, as was Mr. Universe. Hello, the Buffy-bot - does Joss have a thing for robots or what.
Killing Book was also uncalled for, especially when we hadn't heard what his deal was, although saying that, it was an interesting way of keeping us guessing.
And Mal after that - anyone else want to hug him or make him cups of milky sugary tea or whatever.
Yes for Inara and the not incense. I still want to know what her deal is.
The planet of the dead was freaky. As indeed was the operative (bows down to Chiwetel Ejiofor, the only man who can have two films out in one week, one where he's an uber-assassin, and the other where he's a drag queen and can be believable in both.)
Reavers also freaky. As was the beginning with little River (however unreal) and the teacher. And Simon rescuing her, so very Simon. The Operative was right, Simon is all about love when it comes to River. So very Simon, when he thought he was dying, apologising to River and all.
Got to love it when Simon and Kaylee are making out at the end and River's just gawking. Also loved Mal freaking out about Kaylee talking about her battery operated friends.
I always wanted to know what happened at Serenity Valley, and I'm thinking something similar to the end scene but with less of a happy ending happened.
Some of the slow-mo feet-walking got a bit much, even if it was a foot-fetishists dream, but some of the other shots, especially the one around Jayne on Miranda, were excellent. BTW is it me or was the cockpit bigger in the film than in the series?
But yes, enjoyed it muchly, even if I could have done without death of Wash.
