Those Two End Of Year Memes I Normally Do
Ignoring, once again, that it is February.
1) Was 2014 a good year for you?
Not really. No-one's fault, despite exactly how much I want to strangle boss number 2, just not the best of times.
2) What was your favorite moment of the year?
I was being all miserable and thinking that 2014 had sucked but, having finally resubmitted the *&*(ing paper, I suspect most of the misery was to do with stress. I am going to be vain and go with getting second place at the Uhlmann. Because this was a competition with more than 16 people in, and I had to beat a half-decent fencer to get into the final.
3) What was your least favorite moment of the year?
There has been a large amount of suckiness that I am choosing to gloss over. Work is most of this.
4) Where were you when 2014 began?
At home.
5) Who were you with?
Mother and grandmother. I suspect I was making them suffer through Jools Holland.
6) Where will you be when 2014 ends? / Where were you when 2014 ended?
7) Who will you be with when 2015 ends? / Who were you with when 2014 ended?
Unexpectedly with some Germans. Or rather, expectedly with some Germans, but also in an unexpected place, with some unexpected people.
8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2014?
Some of them. Let us not speak of my lab book.
9) Do you have a new years resolution for 2015?
Just the usual, lose more weight, fence better, keep the blasted lab book up to date. I also get to add look for job to that.
10) Did you fall in love in 2014?
11) If yes, with who?
12) If yes, do they know?
13) Do you regret it?
Once again, a resounding no to all of these ;)
14) Did you breakup with anyone in 2014?
Nope.
15) Did you make any new friends in 2014?
16) Who are your favorite new friends?
Not that I can think of. Which is a bit sad.
17) What was your favorite month of 2014?
Not sure. Basically, anything before September was pretty good.
18) Did you travel outside of theUS UK in 2014?
Yes, to Germany for New Years (into 2015).
19) How many differentstates/counties countries did you travel to in 2014?
Just the 1, which was Germany.
20) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2014?
One. Which was not unexpected, given she had metastatic cancer of the everything but still.
21) Did you miss anybody in the past year?
It is noticeable that the encroachment of suckiness began when P went back to Mexico.
22) What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2014?
Grand Budapest Hotel.
23) What was your favorite song from 2014?
Two suggestions off the top of my head:
David Guetta - Lovers On The Sun - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPiW0tkWfeg
or
Sigma ft Paloma Faith - Changing - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oAeotgCHL3E
24) What was your favorite record from 2014?
I have failed utterly on the listening to albums front. I have a backlog of about 6 to listen to. I find music is one of those things I have to pay attention to and I've not been in the mood.
25) How many concerts did you see in 2014?
None. See also massive music failure.
26) Did you have a favorite concert in 2014?
N/A
27) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2014?
No, I was damn good this year.
28) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2014?
Not my thing.
29) How many people did you sleep with in 2014?
0
30) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?
The oversleeping.
31) What was the worst lie someone told you in 2014?
Some of the things my boy cousin has come out with have been spectacular. Even by his standards.
32) Did you treat somebody badly in 2014?
I should probably have been nicer to boss number two, however much he annoyed me.
33) Did somebody treat you badly in 2014?
Not really, not that I noticed anyway.
34) How much money did you spend in 2014?
A reasonable amount. I'm starting to save up in case unemployment occurs this year.
35) What was your proudest moment of 2014?
See also 2nd at the Uhlmann Trophy.
36) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2014 and change something, what would it be?
Several of the over-sleeping days.
37) What are your plans for 2015?
Get either 1) more grant money or 2) a new job. Get lino put in the bathroom. Get a new mattress (which is reliant on 1 or 2 happening).

11 and a bit let, which is less than I wanted but there's a few things that are in the 'finished but not ready' pile which might make up the numbers.
My favourite story this year: I am really fond of the Chicken Soup Case and the Closing of the Case. Mostly because they resemble what I intended to write.
My best story this year: People seemed to like All That's Left To Happen, The Power of Persuasion and The Closing of the Case. I am not entirely happy with All That's Left To Happen (see also, Magneto is difficult to write, and I have opinions about him and he has opinions about himself. And I am aware of how crackpot that sounds.)
Story most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I am not going to complain about the responses I got for my fic because they've been all over the place in terms of fandom and content and mostly very short.
Most fun story: The Chicken Soup Case, because it's light and frothy and just a but of fun.
Most sexy story: I have once again failed at writing sexy fic. There's only two fics with sexy sex (because Heart's Constriction and Know Yourself are deliberately unsexy. That's the point.). And I think Doctor In The House is the sexier of the two.
Story with single sexiest moment: The moment where Randy wants to kiss Stacey but Stacey wants to kiss Mark so she puts a finger on his mouth, and despite being the smallest, weakest person in the scene, she's the one with all the power, and Randy (and Mark) are very, very happy about this.
(My favourite sex-adjacent moment is in Call From Home where Randy shrugs off Mark's arm that isn't even there because they know each other well enough that he knows that Mark would have slung an arm over his shoulder if he had been there and I know it's not sexy but I think it's adorable.)
Hardest story to write: Probably Doctor In The House because it's one of those kinks I don't get so I had to write the window-dressing in a way that would appeal to me so that I would go ahead and write the damn thing. Also, keeping track of who's what was where was not fun. Other than that, All That's Left To Happen because Magneto. Who is horrible to write.
"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Know Yourself. It's the mixture of Octavian's many, many issues (I love you, creepy brainiac that could, but ...) and Rome not glossing over the darker sides of Roman life and keeping it in the spirit of the show.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Heart's Constriction probably (there's another option that I've not posted yet because it's not quite finished but ...). Because I knew Ianto had issues, and the fic was all about those issues, but I'm with Jack in not realising how far he'd go because of said issues.
Biggest disappointment: Neither The Boy Who Wanted nor Ticking Boxes came out quite how I wanted them too. I don't think I made Guy desperate enough in The Boy Who Wanted and I failed miserably at writing Stuart in Ticking Boxes.
Biggest surprise: Call From Home. Which was supposed to be fluffy smut. And it still is, but the bit at the end where Randy (and Mark a bit) are all post-coital trieste-ing, that wasn't supposed to happen. And yet it fitted in so much with where they were at. Totally unexpected turn of story but one I liked.
Most unintentionally telling story: I am at least three of the characters in Ticking Boxes.
1) Was 2014 a good year for you?
Not really. No-one's fault, despite exactly how much I want to strangle boss number 2, just not the best of times.
