Torchwood - Miracle Day - Episode 1

New Torchwood is allowed one episode of exposition, because it's got to be introduced to new viewers, although it's getting a bit much in this one.

And oh yeah, that opening, what with an unrepentant paedophile murderer, is Torchwood.

I also see the Welsh tourist board has been bribing people again.

Oh Gwen and Rhys (if they kill either of them, I cannot be held responsible for the swearing that will commence.)

Is that our newsreader?

I think there is actually precedent for letting people go after failed attempts at death sentences (see also Twice Hanged Smith).

Did they try to hire Rob Knepper for that role because the guy sounds like T-Bag so very much.

A-ha, 456 lives. As does the Torchwood curse. All the Americans are far too nice and innocent for Torchwood.

Ah, they've cast everyone from everything, ever. (Either that, or Ethan Rayne has a spare job as a newsreader.)

Constable Andy lives.

I'm going to assume that that's the US government being mildly evil this time round. Hey, if you're going to have the show set there, it's only fair that they get to be the evil government ;)

And hello, Jack!

OMG! They've switched it so that Jack is the only person who can die. (Things I also love, I'm now worried about who they're going to kill off.)

Either Jack has an evil twin, or he's up to something.

Oh glory be, horrific SFX Torchwood has occurred.

I will not squee/cry over Owen Harper. (I was fine until someone else mentioned it in their review and then wah!)

I see we have set up our moral dilemmas for this series.

I also see that they've stopped being able to write Rhys properly.

Rex is a twerp, but I like him.

The CIA, all powerful. The Severn bridge toll, even more powerful.

Dear Rex, you have just done something powerfully stupid, you have annoyed Gwen Cooper.

My non-spoilery general opinion is that you can tell other people have been at this, there's only been one m/m kiss and that was in the trailer. In fact, all in all, it's all been a bit horribly restrained. What have you done to my terrible/wonderful show of choice. People are competent and sensitive. And no one has a sense of humour. And generally, I miss the things I loved about TW.
However, I felt that way about the glory that was season 2 so I shall give Torchwood version 3 more chances.
