Two End of Year Memes

First, the year round up meme that I grabbed from Frala many moons ago.

1) Was 2009 a good year for you?

Reasonably good. I got out of the terrible funk I was in at the start of the year. There has been progress on my PhD.

2) What was your favorite moment of the year?

Some of my lab results have certainly made me happy, and my fencing results also did. Beating Rachel Kwok at the Sheffield might well be it.

3) What was your least favorite moment of the year?

A few of my screw-ups in the lab.

4) Where were you when 2009 began?

St. Helens

5) Who were you with?

My uncle.

6) Where will you be when 2009 ends?

At home with my Mum and Nan.

7) Who will you be with when 2009 ends?

My Mum and Nan.

8) Did you keep your new years resolution of 2009?

Yes, but that was because I made one that was very easy to keep.

9) Do you have a new years resolution for 2010?

Pass the fP*^&*(^ing PhD.

10) Did you fall in love in 2009?

No, thankfully. I am too busy.

11) If yes, with who?

12) If yes, do they know?

14) Do you regret it?

15) Did you breakup with anyone in 2009?

No.

16) Did you make any new friends in 2009?

New lab people, new fencers, the usual :)

17) Who are your favorite new friends?

I couldn't possibly say.

18) What was your favorite month of 2009?

I was quite fond of July. It featured my Nan's birthday followed by a conference where I was able to ask questions, make reasonable replies and understand 90% of what was going on.

19) Did you travel outside of the UK in 2009?

Only to Germany. We went through France and Belgium, but it was literally only travelling through.

20) Did you lose anybody close to you in 2009?

Thankfully no.

21) Did you miss anybody in the past year?

Babs and Katie. Danny even though he was here, he was just very, very busy. Nish and Nuf, unexpectedly.

22) What was your favorite movie that you saw in 2009?

Moon.

23) What was your favorite song from 2009?

Possibly Bulletproof by La Roux, but this is me so it will change within 10 seconds.

24) What was your favorite record from 2009?

I've only bought 1 and that was the Manics's new one, so yeah, I'm not sure that counts.

25) How many concerts did you see in 2009?

I saw my friend's band play a fair few times (x >5) but I think that was it. If it wasn't the gigs in question can't have been any good.

26) Did you have a favorite concert in 2009?

N/A

27) Did you drink a lot of alcohol in 2009?

No. I think that's because I've been busy.

28) Did you do a lot of drugs in 2009?

0

29) How many people did you sleep with in 2009?

0

30) Did you do anything you are ashamed of this year?

Any number of days where I was late into work because I overslept. I have great difficulty with mornings.

31) What was the worst lie someone told you in 2009?

I don't remember anybody.

32) Did you treat somebody badly in 2009?

I really need to be nicer to Penzy.

33) Did somebody treat you badly in 2009?

Not really. I could have done without the project students in my final year, but I can't blame my supervisor.

34) How much money did you spend in 2009?

Not a ridiculous amount, which is good given I paid for mine and my Mum's holiday this year.

35) What was your proudest moment of 2009?

A very important Professor asked me questions and I didn't screw up or wet myself.

36) What was your most embarrassing moment of 2009?

Losing my rag at the LIUF in spectacular fashion.

37) If you could go back in time to any moment of 2009 and change something, what would it be?

Not really, possibly be a little more careful with some of my sample preps.

48) What are your plans for 2010?

Finish the damn PhD.

Secondly, the yearly fic meme.

Reign of Fire - From The Ashes Of Disaster (1/?) - http://redfiona99.livejournal.com/589916.html

I managed my aim for the year which was more than 12 fics, so I pleased with that.

My favorite story this year: Walking In These Shoes, easily. I was trying something very specific here and I think it worked, because I wanted to avoid it being a very special episode type of fic, so I wanted there to be a B-plot where Tony was busy being Iron Man, which could have been the A-plot of the film or comic, while Pepper was busy with her own story.

My best story this year: A toss up between Walking In These Shoes, because it did what I wanted it to do, and managed to sound right, and Two Day Forfeit, which other people seem to really have liked and felt that it worked.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: What No One Believes. This was the reason I was asking about the gen list, because I want there to be somewhere for gen fic to be the big thing.

Most fun story: Probably Seeing Round Corners, happy smutty fic where everyone is into everything going on.

Most sexy story: Cross-Cultural Communications, but that's possibly because I was enjoying the visual aids I was using for the descriptions.

Story with single sexiest moment: Due to my own kinks and quirks, I find Jindrak's smirk at the end of 'No Picnic In The Park' to be unspeakably hot.

Hardest story to write: Two Day Forfeit by far. There is a reason I don't write non-con. I don't like bad things happening to characters, and I don't understand why you'd do that to someone, plus I was writing Randy in other fics and it was like 'could you cease being actively sick and wrong for about an hour and just go back to your douchebaggy self'. Very awkward.

"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: Tentacle sex was always going to win this one for Cross-Cultural Communications.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: It will be 'From The Ashes Of Disaster' once I've written more of it.

Biggest disappointment: The Education of Mr. Toad - it's too preachy and falls way too much into telling not showing.

Biggest surprise: The amount of feedback I got for 'Walking In These Shoes'.

Most unintentionally telling story: I swear the excuse for the tentacle sex is that I was looking at malesubmissionart at the same time as I was looking for pornbattle prompts to fill.
