One of those times when I'm sure I'm the problem, not the book

So I was reading a book, details of which are being fudged for reasons that shall become clear. And it was well written. The story moved forward. Nothing wrong there.

I just couldn't enjoy it because morally, I was on the side of the bad guys. And while the book is written from the reasonably tight third person, all the other people the lead character doesn't like at least get shades of grey while this particular set of people get nothing but being bad.

And then the end happens and in order to keep within their code they have to admit the good guys are right but at the same time, I still think the bad guys were right, even with the changed circumstance, and I just didn't like the book, but not because of any actual failing of the book but because I was on team bad guy.

Jupiter Ascending

Wasn't as good as it could have been.

I can predict whether or not someone will like it by their reaction to the following phrase "wolf-man fights dinosaur in space." If that doesn't tickle your brain, you probably will not enjoy the film.

There is the premise for a really cool sci-fi tv show lurking under the explosions. They just don't go into the details of it.

And just ignore the science. For the love of your sanity, just ignore the science.

Spoilery Details )

All mockery apart, I did like having a film where there were good guys that I could like. Because they were good.
