Help! a pattern is calling for yards of wool. What's that in grams?

Depends on the thickness of the wool. If you know the brand, I'd look it up at Ravelry, otherwise Yarn Weight has metres per 100 gram for most weights.

Hope this helps! What are you making?

It does, it meant I had something to guesstimate with. I think the problem is partly that I'm so used to grams being *the* measurement that another one through me out. I'd love it if there could be some sort of standardisation, like an SI unit for wool :)

I'm planning to knit this - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mini-thermal-vest for colleague's new baby.
