Doctor Who and the one with Vincent Van Gogh - needless to say, I loved it )

All of which makes me very cranky about Stephen Fry's comments that the BBC ought not to put all of it's eggs in the Merlin/Dr. Who family tv show bracket and ought to make TV for adults.

Because when was the last 'adult' TV show that made the very important point that you can't just hug away mental illness.

Doctor Who, The Fourth Doctor - The Sontaran Experiment - Decidedly Less Successful )

I find it interesting that a two-parter, so ~ 45 minutes, felt so short and lacking in comparison to a four-parter, i.e. 90 minutes, the length of today's two-parters. Is it any wonder that today's single parters sometimes feel so rushed? Then again, Old Who had it's own rhythm, which is a little slow for today. I quite like it, but then again, I work on a slow setting most days myself.

I ended up watching it in a local bar with a bunch of Kiwis. While wearing an Italy top. Needless to say, there was much mockery.

The Kiwis were, in fact, the most awesome people possible for watching football with, mostly because they spent most of the time shouting at the Italians to stop rolling around like they'd been shot, but were happy enough to sum up the first half with 'that was never a penalty, but then again, our goal was miles off-side'. I <3 the local Kiwis.

I am happy enough with a 1-1 draw, it means Italy can still qualify, and heck, they haven't lost yet.

There's something wonderfully cathartic about how Italy play, even when they're terrible. You know exactly what you'll get, and it's metronomic and they're never any better than you expect but they're very rarely worse. Just assume that they're going to struggle and you achive a lovely state of calm.

I didn't get to see the rest of the matches, so I'd love to know how/why Kaka got sent off. There's been some "interesting" refereeing recently.

Using the BBC predictor and some wild guessing, we've ended up with a Brazil vs Argentina final as our most likely option, instead of last week's Brazil v Germany one.

Day 9 - A Song You Can Dance To

Although I'm not sure you can call the strange shaking and jerking I do dancing.

The other days )

As for the fic writing, version 3 of Opera's b-day fic moves forward. For once there is a beginning, middle and an end, things that are a little lacking in a few other things I've been writing.
